Is that a pipe dream for me? is a stroller a neccessity when using a car maybe i can use it around home hmmm? Also any brands of cars so i can start looking im not too confident driving so im looking into smaller cars the new swift looks nice

Re: New Car

i just bought a brand new mazda 2 neo sport and the boot is large very deep people have commented on it too. also there is a lock that if your driving or you have a lap top or something valuable in the boot it also locks so that noone can get into the boot fro the back passenger.

mazda are meant to be one of the best as far as being mechanic on the road  just a thought. worth considering

cheers annie

Re: Thankyou for all your advice

Just wont to say that I had a Toyota Echo and we had to sell it as it wasn't very big for a family and the boot of the car was too small for a stroller/pram.  It is a fantastic car tho and I was very sad to get rid of it.

Re: New Car

Hi,

Like everyone has said you wont use a baby carrier for very long. Baby's tend to grow very quickly. You will use a pram more than you think. Don't get a 3 wheeler pram as they take up more room when folded.

As for the car, I have a nissan pulsar 4 door. They drive very well and don't feel like a big car and the good thing is they have heaps of boot space. I go away a fair bit and i can manage to fit a pram, porta cot and about 4 bags in it.

Hope this helps and good luck

Re: New Car

Ok, I had a little mirage..2dr hatch and I refused to sell it just cos I was having another baby. I found a pram that fitted in the boot..no probs..just couldnt fit much else in! You dont need a massive car but something with 4dr and a bit of boot space. As for the baby carrier, I used one of those ones where they lay in it. It was great in the begining. I have never known anyone to use the carriers for more than a few months..they are kind of awkward to use.

Re: New Car

I loved my baby carrier, just make sure you get one that has great back support. you need a pram though for times when bub is asleep and you go out for dinner , things like that. I have a 4x4 toyota, its great as its a wagon style, you need the space. In summer i have Jades sun tent, mini sit for me, (easier to breastfeed) swim bags etc., it fills up quick, lol. Anyway good luck.

Re: New Car

Get a wagon - much more room & easier to get things in & out of. You'll find carrying a baby carrier will get too much. It will get heavy, & you have to put it down to do other things. They are fine for a little while,  but you will find a pram so much easier. Toyota Corolla do a nice little wagon & they are not too big, & Toyota is a good make of car. I've had sedans & wagons & when you have kids, I think wagons are the way to go.

Re: New Car

Whta advice can I give? Well, I used a baby carrier for about a week. Back couldn't handle it. I found that the pram was indispensible, especially when I didn't have a car to use during the day. Walked everywhere we needed to go. As to the type of pram, well that is a really personal decision. I love the 4 wheeled ones, some love the 3. Personal choice. But go to a baby store and have a push around with some and a play to see how easy/ difficult they are to put up and down and how light they are to lift. Cause you will have to lift it to get it into the car.

OK as to the car. I found when looking at cars, it is not the arrival etc of the bub, it is when they start getting a little older that they take up heaps of room. I am talking like 6 months on. So you want a car that has at least 4 doors. You generally need to fit a nappy bag and a pram in the boot. Groceries if you are shopping with bub. Toys if you are visiting someone who doesn't have kids or no kids that young. Portacot maybe as well if you are visiting rellies etc.

I had a box of spare stuff in the boot as well. Extra nappies, wipes, a bottle, teething rings, toys, spare clothes, towel. This was so that if we were out somewhere for longer than expected, or if we had some sort of accident (Nappy wise I am meaning) I had extra supplies with me. I also had a stash of stuff at homes that I visited regularly. Like at my mums place, she had a bag of nappies, wipes, clothes, toys, tin of formula etc so that if I went there, I didn't actually need to take a nappy bag with me. It was all there. With my sister it was clothes and nappies. I also found it was good to include a change of clothes for myself - just in case.

Hopefully this has given you a few ideas and things to think about. Take your time.

Re: New Car

a toyota corolla is a good car to get. new or old. a new one will cost about $25,000 i think for the base model. you can get a yaris which is a smaller version for about $19,000. going for an older one is also good as they are reliable as. i have had my rolla for 5 years now and she is stillgoing strong and she is a 26 year old car.

if you go to www.rollaclub.com you can get some great advice and maybe someone might be able to point you in the right direction to a good car in your area. i think your not from WA i know you are a aussie but. if you post that you are a friend of chrisandliz someone should help you.

i strongly sugest that you do go for a toyota for a few reasons. they are reliable, they keep their sale value, the parts are cheap to get and easy to fix, they run forever.

minti mail me if you want.

good luck.

they are also good for baby stuff.

Re: New Car

Using a baby carrier is fine for about the first 6 months, then your back falls apart! lol.  There are women around that get away with not having a stroller at all, even as their kids get older.  Most major supermarkets and big chain stores have baby capsule type seats these days which make it so much more convenient.

As for new cars and brands etc, not my area of expertise! lol.

Re: New Car

I used a baby carried for about a month as my littlie just got too heavy really quickly and it hurt my back carrying her for a long time.  My pram is constantly in the boot of my car, everytime we go anywhere I pop bubs in the pram.  She loves it because she can look out and see the big world.  The only other thing I have in my boot is her baby bag with her nappies etc.....don't forget that you'll still need to do food shopping etc and you'll need to have enough room in the boot for that plus the pram.

A lot of smaller cars these days have larger boots but I love my Commodore as the boot is HUGE and I don't need to worry that I'll be able to fit it all in.

Re: New Car

Ok let me give you some advice sweetie

These carriers are fantastic and everything but for a long period of time it becomes quite heavy as they get older. I do suggest u invest in getting a pram/stroller a four wheeler as they fit through shopping desks when u go to pay. I use my pram and stroller all the time. I dont use my baby carrier now she is 10 months old and its hard with a 2 year old. We brought a Hyundai Trijet look them up BEST CAR EVER. Its a people mover and great for 2 kids and if you want to fit more kids in or even just take out the back seats or fold them to put pram in. We have managed to have us two in front two kids then two adults in the back seats and still just squeese our big pram in. Smaller cars are good cheaper on petrol but i love our car best thing ever especailly handy as we are going down south in a couple of weeks and it will cart everything we need.
