Re: one yr old boy

I would have thought by now that he should at least be sitting up and rolling over by about 9 months.  Boys develop differently to girls, so the weight isn't really a surprise, but if he looks bulkier and has trouble moving because of that, then his weight could be holding him down.

How is he in other areas of developement?  Is he more advanced in some areas?  Getting assessed by a child health nurse might help.  They know what to look for and the assessments are really just a game to the kids.

He should be sitting by now and starting to move.  I don't think boys are necessarily slower than girls in this area, two of my boys walked at 11 months, my first was 13 months.  They need to get him checked out by a peadiatrican, Dr or Health Nurse.  Maybe the weight could make him slower, i'm not sure, but i think at the very least he should be able to sit by now regardless.

Re: one yr old boy

I would suggest they take him to the health nurse at their local centre. Is he having any floor time? If he is picked up all the time, his muscles will not be able to strengthen properly. He should be rolling by now but not necessarily walking. He really needs a milestone check and appropriate excerises to get him moving. Hope this helps.

Re: one yr old boy

THAT is the problem! Babies NEED floor time and lots of it.

Without it they never learn to sit, roll, crawl, etc. And without having decent floor time, a baby's spine may not develop properly as their backs aren't very strong, and not letting them lay on the floor doesn't give them enough stretch out horizontal growth time. This can cause serious problem later in life as well.

These parents need to be told that they are the one's that don't know what they are doing! Not giving their child proper floor time they could be crippling their child for life.

Re: one yr old boy

I would get your sister/brother to get him to a doctor. My son was always a big boy but he was sitting unaided at 5 months, crawling at 6 months and walking unaided at 10 months. But then my sisters boy is 17 months has only just started walking unaided. It would be best just to see a doctor just to be sure.

Re: one yr old boy

one prob my sister thinks he is advance . so i dont know what to do . they do cope him in a bedroom when they get home from work as they still live at mums and dads

so he gets to lay on the bed at night not on the floor

Re: one yr old boy

call your local health nurse for advice. he shouldnt be more than about 13kg from memory and should be showing signs of crawling by now.

i am not going to say it is a particular thing cause there are so many.
