a few questions..

Ive been getting tight cramps over the lower and middle of my stomach, it feels like a menstrual cramp and lasts for about 30seconds and some of them make me crouch over to ease the pain a little, i get aorund 3a day. Is this braxton hicks??  If so does this mean labour is coming soon??

Also the last 2days my stomach has grown even more and has dropped, does this mean anything??  Ive also been told that bubs head has engaged!!

Midwifes say with this umbilical cord condition that bubs will arrive at 37 weeks, im 32 weeks at the moment and thats why im worried.

Ive had no bleeding, throwing up, and only one light headache yesterday.

If anyone could let me know if what im experiencing is braxton hicks and if with saying bubs has dropped and heads engaged if labour is close that would help alot.

Dannii xo

Re: a few questions..

I would say they are braxton hicks contractions.  I've been having them a lot since about 20 weeks (though now looks like 16 weeks).  They are your muscles and everything getting ready for bubs to be born, but they can last for months.

As for the head being engaged, I'm sure he will pop up and down a bit more yet, they always do.  It is still possible for him to turn around as well, so don't stress too much about it.  The head being engaged is measured in 5ths, that is 5/ 5ths means head is down, 1/ 5th means they would expect labour any time.

My babies have all been  head down since about 24 weeks (puggle is the exception here) and their heads engaged and disengaged and so on so on etc for months on end.  They all were overdue too (puggle still needs more time in the oven) even though I was told at around 37 weeks I could go any time.  Bubs is the one who decides when he is ready to come out!  Not fair!

Re: a few questions..

I had dropped by 32 weeks with both my kids and both were born at their due dates. You really dont want anything to happen just yet..get to 36-37 weeks at least, and you should be right. I know of women who had dropped early and the day before labour, the baby went back up again! Everything is so unpredictable..baby will come when its ready. I know the last 10 weeks are almost unbarable, you just want this kid out hey! I would say the contractions are just braxton hicks, very common and very normal. Good luck with it all xx

Re: a few questions..

Yes, if you have dropped & head is engaged you are close. But bear in mind babies can often move down, then back up, down again, on & off, for a while before going into labour.

Your cramps are likey to be braxton hicks, or you could be starting into labour. however, the fact that they are only 3 a day for however many days they have been happening, they are likely to be braxton hicks (I only had braxton hicks with my 3rd & didn't have a lot of them). As already advise, just keep track of the cramps, if they get closer together &/or more severe, then you are in labour.

By the sounds of things you are indeed very close! Good luck!

Re: a few questions..

definately braxton hicks chicki, but becareful cause if you have droped as you say then bubs could come sooner than 37 weeks. if you dont have one, get a stop watcha nd a note book and write time and how long they go for. you will find they will increase. this is a good thing to have for the midwives.

Re: a few questions..

hey dannii,
I am pretty sure that you are having braxton hicks contractions but if they get more painful and a bit more regular - like every 10 minutes or if you get 7 in an hr, ring the local maternity ward and explain your worries!
I know this is every pregnant womans most hated thing - but it wont be long before your bub will be here ! the head bein gengaged doesn't mean anything - and with several weeks to go - bub can chop and change if he wants to!
Just rest as much as you can!
Luv ya xxx
