Re: cont. 2. on whats wrong with my son
I'm quite surprised this doesn't happen more often with disposable nappies. They did exist when my daughter was a baby (nearly 30 years ago) but she couldn't use them. I couldn't use plastic 'pilchers' either; had to use old-fashioned 'flannel' ones or do without. ('pilchers' are plastic pants worn over cloth nappies to prevent soak-thru when baby pees. 'flannel' is a tightly-woven woolen fabric that can absorb amazing quanities of liquid; takes forever to dry)
My daughter got terrible nappy rash; really shocking & scary to me; it could even bleed. 2 things were reccommended to me... 1) bathing her bum in a solution of pottassium permanganate (called 'Condee's Crystals' at the time). This turned the bath water a gorgeous shade of mulberry, stained the bath brown & gave her butt a remarkable tan. It did slightly increase the strength of her skin... 2) I was told (by the doctor) to use a (generally used for adults) thrush cream (called 'Granugen' at the time) on the worst of her sores. And to leave her nappies off altogether as much as possible. All very well when the weather is warm & you can spend a lot of time outside on the lawn... Not so practical in winter or wet weather.
But the 'Granugen' did work. And I learned to keep all plastics well away from her butt. & all scented products as well. And since the bath was already stained, I kept using the crystals too. As soon as the day was good, I took her outside & let her do without nappies. Sensitive skin can be challenging to care for. I'm a redhead myself so I guess it wasn't surprising my daughter got the fair skin problems.
Do make an appt with your Dr tho; there's probably some wonderful modern medical advice that will help too. Even pharmacists can be helpful.
good luck
