My son as 3 bottles a day a morning one, an after lunch one and a bed time one. He turns one at the end of next month. Just wondering do I slowly switch the formula to cows milk or do I get the formula for 12mth olds.
When should I be cutting down on the bottles and giving cows milk?
Our 1 year old started refusing her formula about a month ago. She wanted the cow's milk, and couldn't even be fooled with mixing the moo juice and the formula.
If you want to do the change over slowly, start with 3/4 formula and 1/4 cow's milk, and then over the next couple of weeks gradually increase the amount of cow's milk and cut down on the formula.
This something to try, our daughter was raised on it and is very healthy, it is basically a formula made from 'whole' foods so very nutritious, non-allergy causing.
our daughter is 15 mnths and still is on formula we have tryed her on cows milk but she threw it up . Caitlin was allergic to full cream milk too I was allergic to full cream milk to when i was a kid . so it is up to you when he goes on full cream milk but like others said do it gradually
The best way to get your son onto cows milk is to do it gradually - reduce his formula by 20 ml and put 20ml of cows milk in, slowly increase the cows milk every day or 2 and decrease the formula. Or you could just start giving your son cows milk in a cup and see if he drinks it, if he does no problems then cut the formula out one bottle at a time and replace it with a cup of cows milk. Good luck!
Hi, the choice is your, I had my daughter on cows milk by time she was 8 months old, so with a balanced diet I think it should be safe to put your son on cows milk
Jjust do it gradually don't give him a full bottle of cows milk first time round, mix the formula with the cows milk over a few week period, each day putting more cows milk & less formula & so on.
At the end of the 2-3 week period he will be used of the taste of the cows milk & when you give him his first full bottle of cows milk he will be familiar with the taste.
At 12 months it is fine to go straight to cows milk. If you child is having trouble adjusting to the taste, just add cows milk to the formula , using a little more cows milk each time. Instead of the morning bottle, give the child an early breakfast if he is wanting the bottle. I was always stern with my children, and only offered the breakfast and then some fruit with a sippy cup of milk for morning snack.
If your child doesn't have any allergies then there is no problem giving them cows milk from 12 months on. If you slowly want to introduce it then give them half formula half cows milk in their bottle. My son was on cows milk from 12 months and we never had a problem.
My son also had 3 bottles a day at the same age. They will let you know when they don't want it anymore.
it totally comes down to you. when i was doing this with Alex and charlie the price comparison was similar. i think it was like $10 for the toddler formular and like $2.70 for 3L milk. so as i said very similar. we choce milk over formula and at 1 Alex and Charlie were onto milk.
these days you can buy toddler milk that is $$ but good for them.
but in the end it is totally your choice on which you do.
Most will disagree with me but both my kids where on cows milk on average by 8 months old even though one was on it at 6 months. My kids where always hungry and i had a fussy one as well.
My doctor at the hospital told me if the kids are having a well balanced diet than put them on cows milk. I did and had no prob with that. I did question it though and went and saw the health nurse and she said as long as you are good with the well balanced diet there shouldn't be a problem. She also said out grandparents didn't have things like formula and they turned out ok.
Just my experience anyway and both girls are healthy and look well. If your son needs those bottles give it to him my youngest is 2 and she still has her evening bottle, even though she can go without it depends on her on the day. Both my kids cut down themselves.
With G I used the formula for 1 year olds. my doc said to switch her to cows milk closer to 2 years old. I found that G cut down the bottles herself and was down to one night time by about 14 months old. She was getting enough from the solid meals that she had and the fluids from her sippy cup. I might be wrong (she is 8 now) but I'm fairly sure that cows milk isn't reccommended for infants under 2.
