Wetting the Bed

My 4 year old has started wetting the bed.  She has been toilet trained overnight for almost a year and she is now wetting the bed consistantly every night and sometimes 2 or 3 times per night.

The kicker here is that it is only when she is at my place.  She has 8 days with me and then 6 with her dad and she is ok there.

I did initially start taking her to the toilet when I went to bed but I don't see this as a long term solution and have stopped it.

The other concerning thing is she seems to have no idea she has done it until much later.  As in it isn't a case of her waking with the urge but being too late, she literally sleeps through it and then wakes later.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this to stop.

Re: Wetting the Bed

Kids do go backwards with their toilet training too.  Coming into the cooler weather here in Australia ( I checked your profile), it could just be the colder weather triggering this.

There is a theory that children in particular, use bed wetting as a way of keeping warm, no matter how many blankets you smother them with.  It goes back to caveman days when there was no doors etc.  Only a theory, but I think one that is highly plausible.

Don't make a big deal of it.  Praise her when she does have a dry night and maybe invest in some mattress protectors.  Unfortunately, there is no quick fix solution to this, but putting her in pull up nappies (we call them princess pants) just over night might help.
