bed time problems

My wonderful little 1(5 month old sleeper) has turned into a monster!  She has 1 sleep in the afternoon around 1230pm and goes to bed at night around 7pm.  Well.......until now.  Now at sleepy time she screams and cries and refuses to lie down in her cot.  She stands and walks around her crib and cries.  She is not sick.  This slowly began happeining about 10 days ago, and has progressed into a nightmare.  Once asleep she's fine and doesn't wake through the night.  At times she will carry on for up to three hours, though dropping over with exhaustion!  I go into her periodically and pat/sooth her, but only when she is pretty quiet and calm.  The last five days she has had no day nap (usually had 2 hrs), today had 1/2 hr day nap after 2 hrs carry on , and for that past four nights has gone to sleep sitting up having collapsed over her teddy!  Not a nice situation for any of us!  Was told to maybe try going to sleep on her floor besides her and moving away over time.  She has always slept in a pitch black room but was also told to maybe try a night light? Please any ideas!!!??? Am feeling so sad and so disappointed!! Feel like I have lost my perfect little sleeper and feel like a failure!! Help!!

Re: bed time problems

It happens.  Even the best of sleepers will have times when they fuss and carry on.  I would say maybe she is teething, and can't really do anything about that.

You say that this started about 10 days ago.  Is there anything that happened around that time that could be causing her stress?  Even something as silly as you changing the sheets with ones she doesn't like could do it.

Re: bed time problems

I've had this happen a lot with my son.  He's not the best sleeper to begin with, but it seems like right before he gets teeth, or learns a new big thing (like sitting up, walking, words, etc), his sleep cycle gets completely confused.

Ha.  I'm jealous that you EVER had a kid under 5 months that would lay in her crib.  My son flat-out refused to sleep in his until he was about 10 months.  By 12, he was tall enough to climb out.

Don't feel like a failure.  She's probably just adjusting to some change.  My son got his two lower front teeth in that month.  Grin and bear it, and things will probably return to the way they were before too long.

Hi,

Could it be that she is going through a growth spert? and she is hungry. Or she could be teething. I have a 6 month old that did the same thing a few weeks ago but we just continued to do what we usually did and she sorted herself out. Hopefully this happens for you too.
