not getting sleep

jake is almost 4 months old and still wakes 4 times a night sometimes even more and im feeling it. not getting sleep makes me feel depressed and it effects my other kids when im like that.

i try settleing him with a dummy, and patting his back softly when he wakes and i know he isnt hungry.

i want to try giving him formula before bed but he hates bottles and only takes breast...

any tips...

also he is about 8.2 kg so he isnt underfed or hungry

Re: not getting sleep

Breastmilk is digested much quicker than formula.  Also, breastfed babies are just as prone to wind as bottle fed babies.

If you want to give him a bottle, he will take it if he is hungry, just don't offer the boob.  Maybe get someone else to offer him the bottle.

Re: not getting sleep

Hi Angie

Boys who be crazy to have them,  they ratbags lol.  we are..

brodie was like jake at that age, and this is what settled brodie at night..

We would have a bath, feed, wrap him in a blanket and setttle him down for the night.. We also would have a radio in his room and have classical music played softly, so i couldnt hear it..

If you want to persevere with the bottle, try buying the NUK teats as they are the shape of a breast and some mums i know swear by them..

Hope he settles soon for you..

xx cazza

Can't help with breast feeding but the only other thing it could be is the dummy. Even young babies can work out that if they cry, mum will come. Getting him to sleep without the dummy might stop him from waking when he realises its gone.

Re: not getting sleep

Hey Angie,

All i can think of doing is upping his feeds during the day, is he starting on solids yet? Maybe a bigger feed at night will keep him full during the night and he wont wake up. Maybe even a quick visit with the doctor to see if he has an ear infection or if something is bothering him. It may just be something simple and he thinks that early morning is play time.

I hope he starts sleeping through for yous oon.

Dannii xxo

Re: not getting sleep

Hey hun.

I can't say i know what you are going through but all i can say is persist with the bottles. Perhaps you could try expressing and giving him breast milk in the bottles (get a bit of EBM on the bottle teat) and then gradually swap to formula by mixing the EBM with formula, using less ebm every time you give him a bottle.

Hope this helps a little.
