Duromine

I went to the doctore last week and asked for some weight loss pills as i felt i needed a bit of a kick start. Felt like i was excersising, eating well and not drinking for nothing, i couldn't see much of a change. so as i said i needed a bit of a pick me up and kick start to get me on my way... He gave me duromine, i then found out that you are not meant to have Duromine unless you have more than 33% body fat... i dont even come close to that. He didnt tell me a single thing about it at all, I just read the label info. So then when hubby and i went out to dinner on Tuesday night i had a singular glass of wine and truly felt like i was going to keel over and die!!! (not wuiet so dramatic but felt aweful)

I'm sick of frigen Doctors that come to this country town!!! grrrr

Just wondering if anyone has taken Duromine at all and how it affected them and also the results.

I have since done a little reserch on the net and saw that they are an apertite supresant but yesterday i still ate 3 meals and a small portion of ice cream. (no snacks though) and have heard that most people eat next to nothing. Any help would be great!

Re: Duromine

Hi.. I dont know if your're still reading this but I just had to comment!! DO NOT TAKE DUROMINE!! The stuff is deadly in my opinion!!

I started taking it about 4 months ago and instantly fel in love with it. Within the first few hours I noticed my hunger had stopped and I felt the most energetic and full of life I had in a long time. The first few days I hardly ate a thing, except a few mouthfulls of food here and there and was amazed at how well it really worked. By the third day I noticed the side effects had started kicking in severely as I began experiencing constant migraines, dizziness, fainting spells. nausea, severe moodswings (at first was really happy, but then seemed to be depressed more than anything), could absolutely not sleep!, i had chest aches and increased heart rate, I even noticed at times I found it hard concentrating or concentrated too much if that makes sense.. Basically it turned out to be a horrible experience for me. But I did loose a decent amount of weight very fast which seemed to distract me from the strong side affects.

After the first week I continued to take the pills on and off for another few month or so, I think I was almost addicted to them, but the more I took them the more sick I became and each small period of time I'd stop taking them I'd just put the weight back on, so in desperate measures I'd start taking the pill again. As you can see it turned into a vicious cycle. It was only over a month ago I stopped taking the pill for good as I realised this stuff was absolutely ruining my body,, which I have only just started recovering from! Let me just sum up my end result after my experience with Duromine..    I now weigh more than I ever have in my life, the pill caused me severe constipation which led to hemroids which I am still suffering from(almost 3 months now), my sleeping patterns are completely backwards, I still suffer daily headaches, still often feel lethargic, nauseous, moody and overall crap! And also like you, I was prescribed the pill when I shouldnt of been as I wasnt overweight enough, a second opinion doctor informed me of this a few months ago. She also told me it is related with speed and should only be used strictly on people suffering from obesity as a short term, kick start to loose weight.

Sorry for such an essay but just needed get it out there!! All sideaffects are varied and mine may be more severe than others, but im hoping my story will turn others away from considering using duromine. Id rather be 5x my body weight than feel the way I did on duromine again!

Jess..

Re: Duromine

I have been on Duromine on and off since April/ March & have successfully lost the weight I gained last year.  I researched it quite a bit before asking the doc for it & also asked others who had taken it about what it did for them.

Dont expect your doctor to give you too much info about it other than what you will get in the pamphlet.  If the doc has never used it, he/ she wont know how it can affect you. Also if  you had read the pamphlet and done some research, you will find that you should not be drinking alcohol whilst taking Duromine.  If you are serious about losing weight and have gone to the extreme or taking Duromine, alcohol should be one of the first things that you should have given up, especially whilst taking drugs that have a similar effect to speed.

I know a few people on Duromine & have recommended it to alot of my friends to aid them in "kickstarting" their weight loss and all, except my husband, have been sucessful in losing the weight and staying off the Duromine also.  The reason my husband failed to lose weight is because he too kept drinking alcohol which is a no no.

Like anything, you need to give it a real go to get any results.  I did notice that during the first week I was wide awake and probably lived on 3-4hrs a night sleep (as opposed to my usual 5hrs a night) but after that initial first week, I was fine.  The only other side effect I had was not eating & I managed to keep a food diary to ensure that I was eating something each day.To a certain extent, I found this a good thing as I really needed to reduce my calorie intake which is the whole premise of a diet

Again, please keep in mind that Duromine is just a kickstart & not a permanent weight loss solution.  On the other hand, the pros definitely outweighed the cons.  I had more energy & found myself doing more during the day and night, and I have lost 14kgs and still losing.  I have also found that I'm not addicted and that I am now taking it when I feel I need it.  Without it, I would have been struggling for a while to lose the unwanted weight.

Persevere with it, you just need to get used to it.

Re: Duromine

Hi

Yes I was on these for a while too and I gotta say I loved them at the time...although if there is a diet pill that is bad for you..then this one is it!

I will say tho, I felt great on them. I had sooo much energy and my house could be seen sparking from space lol but come night time..i couldnt wind down. I existed on about 4 hrs a night for weeks. As the pill is speed based..well doesnt take an einstein hey! I never felt hungry which is dangerous..but i never even thought about food and when i remembered, I would only eat a tiny amount. Of course the weight fell off but not for long..

About 6 weeks in I was sitting reading a book...speed reading in my case..and my heart began racing a nd beating hard, my vision became distorted and I thought I was dying. The episode lasted about 2 minutes and my dr immediately stopped my presciption. The following week there was a write up in the paper saying how how dangerous this pill was and how some have had complications and problems with their heart valves as a result of taking Duromine..unsure if true but enough to stop me taking it..

Sorry for the essay hope it helped!! If you wanna know more, minti mail me

Jo

Re: Duromine

ps not sure how accurate this is but someone once told me (not working in medical field) that it has "speed" in it. thats why you should take it early in the day and no caffeine otherwise you could be up all night also there are different strengths so that also makes a difference

cheers annie

Re: Duromine

Duromine causes bad insomnia. I'd advise against it. I have an article on weight loss (I don't know how to put links - go to my profile to find it).

I've also recently been told about a very good diet - Betty Baxter. It's a meal replacement program. There is a website, just search 'Betty Baxter' to find it.

Please take the time to read the article I wrote. Some of what's there comes from things I learnt while going to a gym from the instructors. Good luck!

Re: Duromine

Ok, let me tell you something about weight loss that the companies and doctors fail to tell you.  Do not expect results in the first few weeks.  This is because fat is often turned into muscle and muscle is heavier than fat, so your weight may seem like it is going up and not down.  A lot of people are discouraged by this, and give up, when in fact, if they just kept pushing through with even more determination, they would see the results within a few months.

Weight loss should be about the long term results, not the quick fix solutions that the commercial world tries to rub in our faces.

Appetite suppressants should be used with extreme caution.  They actually slow your metabolic rate down so that when you do start seeing the results, you think you can stop taking them.  Bang!  You start putting the weight on again, ruining the previous weeks of hard efforts.  Don't take them, instead, go for smaller meals more often, healthy of course, to increase your metabolic rate.  This will have better results long term and you don't need medication to achieve it.

Your doctor needs  a bullet, or in the least a kick in the pants.  He should have explained what he was giving you.  If something does go wrong because you take the pills eg, you have a stroke (not saying it is going to happen, pulling an example out of thin air!!!!) he is liable for medical negligence, based on his failure to explain to you what the medication really is and how it is to be used.

Your pharmacist should also have gone through it with you too.  In Australia, it is the 'double check' method and it has proven to save lives.

Remember, you are the only person who has to be truley happy with your body.  You should never feel pressured by the commercial depiction of the 'perfect woman' or by the opinions of other people around you.  Happiness comes from the inside, not the outside.  Yes, if you look good, you feel good, but what's looking good?  To me, it is having a smile in the eyes and on your face!

Re: Duromine

I'm not sure the chemical makeup of this drug, but almost all "weight-loss" pills have some form of caffeine in the them.  Reason being is that caffeine speeds up the heart and the body's matabolism.  This inturns makes you feel like you are full of energy, jittery, dizzy/light-headed or even weak.  Also, because you are not eating as often your blood sugar drops to dangerously low levels and thus the chance to pass out or get that strong fuzzy feeling.  But since you are eating your normal meals this should not be a big concern (the bloodsugar part).  But you should not drink anything with caffeine or alcohol, especally until your body adjusts to the medication.  Also, you still need to eat healthy, like the others said and exersice.  If it's making you really sick, then lower the dosing or stop and tell your doctor.  If they don't tell you how it works or answer your questions, then seek another doctor for these medications.  I've been there and to many times I've seen my friends get very ill from taking pills to much.  Good luck and I hope you reach your goals!

Re: Duromine

first of all like all medication  you should avoid alcohol

second thing the idea is that you are still meant to  eat healthy and avoid fatty foods as well. its similar to when your cleansing your body .

no alcohol plenty of water and healthy small meals and try to excerise a little.

like nat has said there are side affects. the reason why doctors dont just give out a prescription easily are for these very reasons

did you ask specifically for them or did the doctor recommend them.

i know the doctor should have followed procedure and potocol but if you asked for them he/ she might have made the assumption that you have had them before.

i usually ask the doctor if there are side affects. they can usually check in a book they have that lists all medication and what other side affects other patients have reported

cheers annie

Re: Duromine

hi, im on this tablet now, and my first week i felt icky, lost five kilos in one week, irritation is my side affect, im a moody cow, and i will say that. however, thois is working for me. i trust my doctor, and overall i feel great. need to get up earlier and take the tablets earlier so i can sleep better at night, but other than that its fantastic. they do worry about people getting addictd to it, i however cant wait for it to be over, cause i want the results. the first week i ate next to nothing, and although i get hungry now at meal times i dont eat half as much. I work really hard too though, lots of exercise. it can make me feel a wee bit funny sometimes but for me its worth it. EVERYTHING has risks. and side effects, if you dont want them dont tae them, get a scond opinion about them. Good luck, and please, do feel free to minti mail me. your body is probably shocked by them too. my mum is on them, and i dont think they are woking for gher either. Each person is different and how they react to it. Good luck xx

Re: Duromine

i used to take Duromine a few years back, i would still get hungry but i could only eat a little bit, i literally could not eat more than about 1 piece of bread a day.  I stopped taking it because although i was losing weight it stopped me from sleeping, my brain would be exhausted but my body would want to keep going ang going, i'd be still up at 4am cleaning walls and cupboards, i was lucky to get a half an hour of sleep per night and after a while the lack of sleep drove me crazy.  It can also make you feel quite dizzy and can cause you to pass out (in public) as was the case was with me, rather embarrassing...People also take Duromine as a kind of party drug, they take it before they go out and they can drink and party all night without getting tired or hungry. I haven't spoken to anyone who has not had a side effect from this drug so i say be careful, if it works for you thats great but if you notice any effects that you're not happy with stop taking it straight away
