constipation frustration

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone out there has experienced this...... I was very regular before being pregnant.  Through my pregnancy I got extremelt constipated (normal I know) to the point of needing an enema at 27 weeks.  I also had to take senokot, metamucil, prunes every day in order to go once every two to three days.

Problem is I have never returned to normal regularity and my baby is nearly two.  I am becoming extremely frustrated with this.  I try drinking lots of water, take senokot as an absolute last resort (once a fortnight if I just cant take it anymore)  I eat muesli every morning, try to eat fibre foods but just cant stay regular.  I am only going once every two to 3 days again with maybe a pellet somewhere in between (sorry for the imagery)

Is this something I will just have to come to terms with? Has my body changed that much from pregnancy?  Or is there anything more I can do?

Re: constipation frustration

I like the chiropractor, but often when I mention it on Minti you get a flurry of why it isn't great.  It helped me and my baby with constipation.  Knowing that you have been through pregnancy and labour, you will well have put your spine out of alignment, this can affect digestion and getting it fixed could be cheaper, easier and quicker than oral alternatives.

You might be surprised at the results, anyway, goodluck.

Re: constipation frustration

I had a lot of trouble after both my children, but not for this long, at most it was 3 months. The best things I found were prunes and pears - no apples at all as they can constipate you. Eat fibre rich foods - but you can overdo it and make the problem worse. I think as it has been so long you should see your doctor and make sure there isn't an underlying reason for this though as it isn't normal.
