Re: Trigger points.

Hello,

I am a remedial Massage therapist. I perform trigger point therapy all the time.

I aggree with the comment make sure you find a good therapist one that listens to you.

What would you like to know?

How i explain trigger points to my clients is: the muscles are made up of fibers its when one or two of those fibers are broken. we break fibers all the time it is normal for our bodies to do that, but what actually happens is the surrounding fibers get over worked and underpaid so to speak. Since the brain has a million and one things to think about it tends to forget to fix the broken fibers. so when you go to a massage therapist they find them hold them for 10 sec's and they release they should release with in 10 secs if not they are not on the right place. Within 10 secs the endorphens are released as well as healing properties to fix the trigger point.

It is a fantastic technique to relieve a tight muscle with out irritating it.

You may feel tenderness the day after or even maybe 2 days after it depends on how your body responds. But you shouldnt be sore after 3days. If you are your therapist went too hard.

My advice would be talk to your therapist get them to explain what they are doing and why they are doing it. I do this with my clients and i find that once they understand what is going on they relax more.

Also dont forget to tell your therapist what you are feeling and if the pressure is too much we are not mind readers and you need to speak up. I get my clients to tell me to back off if needed.

please email me if you want to know anymore information. I will be more than happy to help you.

Re: Trigger points.

I had a problem with trigger points in my shoulder blade a couple of years ago. I had physical therapy which involved massage, ultrasound and heat treatments and they gave me exercises to do which really helped. In my case I was in treatment for around 6-8 months but this was mainly due to the fact I had a car accident during treatment which left me with neck and shoulder problems so I guess it is hard to put a time limit on the actual trigger problem.

Re: Trigger points.

massage is a great thing for anything related to it. (i am going to get one this week) but be careful and find a good one. i made a mistake and went to a cheap one and i was in pain after it. i also told her not to touch my knees and she touched them. i should of complained but i didnt.

try google search for more medical info on it.
