Re: quick i need advice on constipation

Constipation in kids can be difficult. When I was raising my 4, now and then I had to help them along a little and none of them ever knew about it....even now as adults. I would get some pink Agarol from the chemist, put some milk into a glass, mix the required dosage of Agarol into the milk and then add 2 teaspoons of strawberry flavoured Quick into the milk as well. They wont know they are getting help from Mum because they think they are drinking Milk that has Quick flavouring in it. They will not even taste the Agarol as it loses its taste in the quick mix but softens the stools within thier little bodies helping to get things moving with no discomfort. Works well, is gentle, tasteless, harmless, and makes for happiness all round. Cheers!

Re: quick i need advice on constipation

Hi, my son has always had problems with constipation since he was a baby and continues to do so at 9.When he was a baby he was prescribed LACTULOSE SOLUTION. This worked okay but as he has got older that doesn't really work.We had a bad time with him a few weeks ago and I gave him dried prunes, apple juice-I found fresh orange juice just gave him tummy ache.Lots of freshly boiled water that has been left to cool.If things get really bad, boiled water with sugar works quite well.I hope things get moving soon,it's not nice at all when you can't 'go' is it?

I always found apple juice worked well. Also make sure he drinks plenty of water. Benefibre is very good (available at chemist) & can be used on children from 2 years of age (it has how much to give on the back). It doesn't taste, either, you just add it to food or drink & you really cannot taste it at all (I use it for myself).

Re: quick i need advice on constipation

hi

for the last 7 months we have been going through this with gecko-baby, he has been in hospital with nasal gastric tubes to get the medication to his tummy to work its way down from there,  he has even had operations for it and is booked in for another one in June cause he still can't do a poo unless he is heavily medicated.

he is on a drug called PARACHOC and a few other medications that you need a doctor to give you a scrip for and even then they shouldn't be given to children under 5.

the other things that you can try is some laxatives that you can get from the chemist, but i would take him to your GP as they will be able to put you in the right direction, but if i was you i would be asking for a X-ray so that you can see just how compacted he really is as you might need to do more than just a laxative.

good luck and feel free to minti mail if you want

Re: quick i need advice on constipation

there is a product on the market called nulax. It's a mixture of different fruits and can be bought at the chemist. Alternatively you could try supposetries or coloxyl drops.

If he eats lots of apples, bananas and cheese - cut them right back and give them to his as a special treat. Give him heaps of water or orange juice - the acid in the orange juice will soften and move the poo a bit easier and quicker!
