i really enjoyed kaz cooke " up the duff" she also has a follow on called "kidwrangling " for the first 5 years. very funny , easy to read and has pages where you can write stuff down weeks by week through out the pregnancy.
I have Dr Miriam Stoppard - Pregnancy and Birth (ISBN 0 751373427) I was giving this from sister in law when we fell pregnant with Amy so it is a few years old and a well worn copy but it is my bible it explains nearly everything to give you an idea of what is covers here are some of the chapters titles.
Your pregnancy calendar/ Being a wonderful Father/ Having the birth you want/ your pregnancy diet/ staying fit in pregnancy/ your antenatal care/ you and your unborn baby/ common complaints of pregnancy/ be prepared/ sex in pregnancy/ not long now/ managing your labour/ your special delivery/ your newborn baby.
As you can see it covers a wide range of topics and even though i have not read it from cover to cover it is easy to pick it up and find the things you want to know. Hope this helps with your choice.
i would have to say : Conception, Pregnancy and Birth by Dr Miriam Stoppard.
The book i have was given to me from my sister. Id say its about $45 and you could find it in book stores. It covers absolutley everything!! It has over 350pages and a glossary to find certain things, i have read the whole book and look over it all the time. It has heaps of pictures and explains whats happening week by week, gives a good understanding about labour ect. If you have the money i defienetly reccomend this book, ITS FANTASTIC!!
The What to Expect series are good books, but are really general. I love The Baby Whisperer! She's got really good advice and lays it out in a nice tone, getting you to understand the baby and their temperaments. She also lays a good schedule for you as a guideline to follow and explains her theories behind them.
Someone beat me too it, "UP THE DUFF" by Caz Cooke , so funny plus its honest and makes you feel normal. I buy this for everyone when I find out they are pregnant, the next book "KID WRANGLER" is good too.
I agree with you, Up the Duff is a fantastic book, with a sense of humour...i loved reading it while i was pregnant, i read the whole book then i went back and read week by week as my pregnancy progressed...
