Many thanks for all the advice, I shall try adding a little more salt to my diet and see if it helps, I'll keep ya posted!

How much salt do you have in your diet?  Muscle cramps, particularly in the legs and during pregnancy, can be an indication of not enough salt in your diet.  Finding a good balance might help with this and if need be, you could take a salt supplement which you can get from your pharmacy.

I've had the same problem, but found that by increasing my salt intake just a little, the cramps have gone away almost completely, unless I have spent very little time sitting down.

Re: Cramp in pregnancy

Oh the leg cramps! Very common in pregnancy, and damn they hurt!
I find a good thing to do is to give your legs a good stretch before you go to bed, especially stretch out through the heel. (Do this also when you get up to go to the toilet)
Others have also suggested to me to drink some milk before you go to bed.
You can also ask your midwife/doctor about a magnesium suppliment if they dont stop coming so frequently.
Good luck!

hi

if you aren't able to take something the other thing that you can do is go to your chemist and ask for the pressure stockings as they will help with the blood circulation.

what i did when i got these was i slept with pillows under my knees and ankles, it helps, but i would also be talking to your doctor about it also, as they might be able to do more for you.

good luck

Re: Cramp in pregnancy

hi,

Ive been getting those cramps since around 20weeks.Now being 33weeks they are alot more intense and i get them everyday. My whole calf muscle goes tight and i cant really straighten it out and end up rolling around in my bed crying. I know it hurts but try and flex your toestowards your head, this will help straighten out the muscle again. Make sure you inform your midwife/doc at your next app, maybe they can help with the problem.

Re: Cramp in pregnancy

I quite often get cramp through the night and find that if I push my foot against the wall and then release it , it goes away. You are probably getting cramp from being on your feet all day so try and take a break and rest when you can, i know its easier said then done but it should help to relieve the night cramps.

Re: Cramp in pregnancy

They are common in pregnancy so are clots so make sure you tell your doctor as my calf cramps turned into a clot on the lung.and clotting is very common in pregnancy aswell but majority disolve and the rest dont but please just be-aware of it i knew nothing about it until i had the problem

Re: Cramp in pregnancy

This is very normal, I had a few with my first pregnancy but with my second I had them all the time & very bad! There really isn't much you can do -if you want to try Raspberry Leaf don't take it until the third trimester.

Re: Cramp in pregnancy

cramping is generally lack of salt or magnestium. if it is a huge prob go and see your chemist and ask them.

I know raspberry leaf can assist, but check when you can take it.

Hope this helps.
