if you go to a hairdresser ask if your son can play with the spray bottle. my son sprays himself in the mirror and thinks it s great game (its a good distraction).
I chose to take my son to a hairdresser as i once cut off a bit of his hair that would not stay down and cut it too short.
I was lucky, I have boys, so I could get away with this more, but I can't see why you couldn't do it to a girl for a little while at least while they were very young, it's 2008 after all! When their hair started getting wispy and fly away I simply gave them a number 1 blade with the clippers. They were about 1 year old. Hey they're babies, they've been nigh bald for so long anyway, whats a few more weeks til it grows back? I kept their hair very short with the clippers like that progressing the blades with their age, so when they were 2 they got a number 2 blade, a number 3 at age 3, and a number 4 at age 4. Then I let them grow it long if they wanted to. Their hair is now so thick it gets commented on (positively) a heck of a lot.
Baby`s first hair cut is usually FREE. They will give Baby`s first curl at the saloon, put it in a ziplock or in an envelope , so that you can save and add it into your little ones scrapbook. They also gave a Certificate with my baby`s name on it and the person who cut the hair signed her name at he bottom with the date.
Some Mom`s frame the certificate or add them in the scrapbook.
I have just taken sophie in for her first real hair cut today. her fringe was in her face so now she has a fringe. She hasn't had 1 for about a year. she just sat there, she was really good. I gave her a lollipop after
When it was time for my son's first haircut, I cut a long curl that he had to keep for his baby book and then I took him to the woman who cut my hair. She is a very good friend and she was honored that I asked her to give my son his first haircut. She also did a much better job than I think I could have. If you decide to take your son to a salon or a barber shop, make sure they have experience with cutting young children's hair. Good luck!
P.S. Now that my son is older I cut it myself with the clippers... it is easy and he loves to have a "buzz" cut like his dad's :)
Neither of mine have had much hair, so I have done it myself until they are old enough to object! R was fine until his aunty told him about grandpa cutting daddy's ears - even now he always asks the hair dresser, "are you going to cut my ears?". I think he was 2 1/2 when we started going to the hairdresser - and it is just a question of finding a good one with kids - I've found the cheap, no booking kind good as they seem geared to kids - one near us even has a portable dvd player, on which they put the Wiggles - the only problem is the hair cut is finished before the dvd is!
If you feel confident enough, then I suggest doing it yourself. Though it will be a good idea to have someone else there with you to keep baby from moving around too much. Also, they don't like the feel of bits of hair on their faces.
My son had his first hair cut at 4 months. He was born with a lot of hair and by 4 months, we had to cut it. My husband and I cut his hair until about 2 months ago when I brought him to a hairdresser for the first time. By this time we know how we want his hair and the hair dresser didn't even come close. So I think we will continue doing it ourselves. We have an electric razor so it's much easier and much quicker.
its what ever you prefer, if your confident save yourself some pennys, otherwise if you go to a hairdresser go to someone you trust, or have heard great things about, my parents got alexs haircut without me knowing i was so upset!!!!
OMG! A haircut already! Austin will probably be 2 before he needs one LOL!!
My sister took Tyson for his first haircut to a lady at a barber shop. She had to find someone who liked kids and was good with him, coz he wouldnt sit still. The barber shop lady was great!! I think Tyson even had a little crush on her LOL
