2 questions....

ok im 38 weeks pregnant at the hossy tomorrow to let them know weve decided to try a VBAC mainly but if im informed corectly after a c section they cant induce me sld the baby decide to stay put  as it can cause complications, so if i was to go over due how far will they allow me to go over 40wks?

and as my first was 2 weeks late do you think they would do a membrain sweep to encourage this labour ?

i figure this is my last chance to get them to interveen the 40 week appointment might not give me enought time to get started seems boys are very stubburn

Re: 2 questions....

hi i'm kinda in the same boat. although i have had 2 c-sections previously ( due to failed induction the first time and then elective the second) and this is my thrid pregnancy. i've been told but my midwife ( whoes my primary carer) and the doctor i see that due to having a scar on the uterious from the c-sections in australia they wont induce as there are high risks of complications arising  due to the gels used etc but that they'll do allow women to go to full term so 40 weeks and then they book another c-section if labour doesn't occur naturally. i've not heard of them allowing it to go over 40 weeks but you could ask your doctor or primary carer what views your hospital has on the matter. hope this helps and hope it goes well.

Re: 2 questions....

I was offered the gel for the cervix when I was 39 weeks with my first, but refused it.  Hindsight says that I should have had it though as bubs was 2 weeks late and being threatened with eviction if she didn't vacate herself!

Normally, the let you go to 42 weeks, but anything they can do now to prevent that has got to be a good thing.  Just ask if they will help you along, but they might think you mean right there which means you should have your bags in the car!

Hey Jo

I hope the VBAC works out for you! I am not sure if it is the same after a c-section, but I know my NHS trust allow you to go 10 days over your due date before they consider induction. Hopefully they will give you more clarification tomorrow. Good luck at the hospital!

Re: 2 questions....

Hi,

I had an emergancy c section with my first and wanted to try VBAC with the second but as you know they don't induce. In my case if bubs didn't come by 40 weeks then i was going to be put in for a c section anyway. The other thing that i was told was that they would not let labour go longer than 8 hours before they went for an emergancy c section not sure if that was just my situation or if that is the same for everyone. Needless to say i went for the planned c section.

Good Luck

Juzzy xoxo

Re: 2 questions....

Hi,

l dont know much but  from my experiance , with my 5th son l deceided on a VBAC and l got to have it. l came and went for my due date, my next appointment was to choose to wait another week longer, have my mebranes popped or have another c section.  l was told by a midwife that popping the membranes usual works  and you can go to 42 weeks previding everything is ok. They dont like to give you any drugs as you body is the only way they know if anything has happened to the scar inside or induce you, things have to happen naturally.

Anyhow l gave birth VBAC on the day the doctor wanted to have a talk with me about what l wanted to do, if l had have gone to the appointment and Dean had not decided to come into the world at 41 weeks...l was going to choose waiting alittle longer and then getting my membranes popped.

Good luck and l hope this healped abit.

Hugs xo
