should I or should he? is the question.

Hey everyone

I know this isn't a real parenting question but just need your thoughts on this.

We have decided that 2 children is enough and we are debating about if i get my tubes tied or does he get the snip. What do you think and why?

Hugs Tee

I would get him the snip. I know it is reversable for men, but I don't think it is for women so if you guys change you mnd down the track, not just that but the recovery time for men is a lot quicker. I would look in to both methods speak to your doctor do some research then make an educated desicion together.

Good luck.

Send him! The pregnancy rate after the woman is done is 1 in 200, while after the man is done it's 1 in 2000. I found this out after my SIL had her 4th baby - after  she's been done twice & reversed once. But make really sure you dont want a third as she was extremely lucky to have had a successful reversal - after the birth of her third child the hospital admitted this was their first ever successful one (NOT a small town hospital either).

Re: should I or should he? is the question.

As a bloke I find this an interesting question and I also have an answer (from my point of view of course).

I am probably a little strange as I fell neither should have a procedure done as your body should not be messed with. (mind you I don't even think much of ear piercing and cosmetic surgery so I am probably a bit boring there.)

I personally would research other options but this only my opinion.

Re: should I or should he? is the question.

My partner and I were in this position 2 years ago.We both went to the doctors and discussed what would be our best option.Firstly, my partner-he'll go mad if I tell you this but here goes-he has extra, extra sensitive testes. If I go near them he flinches and it's'mind me bollies'. Can't believe I wrote that!! The doctor told him that having a vasectomy could make the problem worse.MMM.. So, at my doctors I discussed sterilisation and was told that it could be quite complicated and not always be 100%.Apparently the tubes can join back together.Anyway, in the end I had the mirena coil fitted. It lasts for 5 years and produces oestrogen-so is very good for pre-menopause.Another advantage is that your periods stop.I had 'spotting' for 4 months and nothing since.

It's quite a difficult choice to make really.Best of luck,Lisa

Yeah, i'd be sending him!  I'm trying to get mine to get the snip, i feel i've had enough done to my body!  The whole waiting for 14 times is because sperm is in storage and they say it takes up to 20 times before it is completely empty. Good Luck!

I'd have to say it's much easier for hubby. It's only day surgery compared to a major op for you. It only takes an hour and that's it. He will need to be tested tho, in about two weeks to a month to make sure it was successful and then your in the clear.

Throw a coin... :)

I don't have an answer to this one...  Sorry.. Personally I'd probably say him, because I hate operations...

Re: should I or should he? is the question.

i personally think your man should get the snip. This is because a tubal ligation is a rather big operation and to get the tubes reversed (untied) is a much bigger operation. With tubal ligation you could be off your feet for upto 6 weeks (no lifting etc) where as if your hubby gets the snip, its done under local anaesthetic and he wont be off his feet -. Just remember tho - if he does get the snip, he needs to masturbate at LEAST 14 times after its done or wear condoms for 14 naughties.

Re: should I or should he? is the question.

Because you need to make sure his sperm is dead/ non existent (dry blowing) and it takes quite a long time for this to happen
