Re: sticky eye

Babies can be born with this and as others have suggested breastmilk or saline to clean it out.  My son had it and it took a good 6 months to clear, the doctor was only concerned if it went over 6 months.  it's not conjunctivitus but the tear duct which doesn't work properly, but good idea to go and see the GP just incase.

Re: sticky eye

Hi there
I also think it could be a blocked tear duct, my little one had one and it was often referred to as a gunky eye. I put a few drops of breast milk in after she woke as that was when it was worse and also used saline on cotton balls to keep it clear.
Caitlins kept returning for about 6 months, oh, and as others have already said a little massage of the tear duct helps clear it out as well.
Good luck at the docs, they will be able to tell you for sure!

Re: sticky eye

my little man had the same thing, try squirting somebreastmilk onto it, or even better get some saline solution, dip a cotton ball into the solution and wipe bubs eye from the inner corner to the outer corner, use one cotton ball per wipe and throw it away.  This worked wonders for my son

Re: sticky eye

Your baby could have blocked tear ducts. You will have to massage the in the inner corner fo the eye (gently). If it is this, your doctor should tell you how to do it.

one of my girls suffered from this. Her eyes were never red at all, just gunky. And it went away after a while, but then it came back again. I think it may have to do with allergies (no other symptoms).

Remember to always have clean hands whenever you touch your baby's eyes.

Re: sticky eye

hi, I think your reffering to conjuctivitis?? Well i know you can get eye drops from the chemist, but for something from home ive always known to use warm salted water. Dont make the water to salty and try and make sure it doesnt come in contact with the eyeball, but using this makes it much easier to remove all the gunk.

Re: sticky eye

thanx for quick reply, i'll try the saline because i've been trying luke warm tea which my mum used to use for our conjunctivitis when we were little, which i thought would of worked but hasn't.
