Other than biological are there any dirrences in raising the oposite sexes?

Hi

I have a 9 yr old son and now a 10 month old daughter. Just wondered if there are any differences there are to rasing them-anything I should know about in advance!!

I know the biological side and the pregnancy side but what about mood, tantrums etc?

IN short, yes!  I have one of each and I can definitely say yes.  However it has not yet made much difference to my parenting - I give them each plenty of time and attention and they share all the toys, they just play with them differently.  There are some great books - like "Raising Boys" and "Raising Girls" you can read. HOpe that helps!

There's not a great deal of difference in general until they get to the stage where they start developing. Girls usually start sooner then boys & often start as young as 9/10 these days. Both boys & girls get mood swings due to hormonal changes, but I think girls are worse. I had a book recommended to me called 'The Princess Bitchface Syndrome' by Michael Carr Gregg & it is great. He has a website, www.michaelcarr-gregg.com.au - he is a leading psychologist & has dealt a lot with kids.

The only other main difference I noticed is that boys are more mischievious. I don't mean they are naughty, just little monkeys. Girls seem to be quieter in the way that they are happier to play with their dolls etc rather than run around, climbing on things, the way boys often do.

As far as tantrums go, they can as bad as one another! To stop my kids throwing tantrums when they were much younger I would throw a tantrum with them. Really, I'd lay on the floor, thump my fist, & pretend to cry. It stopped them! This was at home, not in public. If they tried a tantrum in public, I ignored it. I never gave in to them. They learnt very quickly that tantrums did not work!
