i have a 5 month old daughter. lately she seems interested in my food so i tried starting her on baby food but to my dismay she is not all that interested any suggestions
You could try putting the baby food on your plate and feeding her from there. Kids are funny, and food always tastes better if it comes from Mummy's plate.
Another thing I've tried with ours is letting them have their own spoon when I've been feeding them. Might be a bit messier, but it keeps their little hands busy and they can try putting the spoon in their mouths too.
She may not be ready yet, so you could do as the other person suggested and try again in a few days. Also, if she is breastfed she may find comercial baby food too bland (mine was like this and the health nurse told me breastmilk is quite flavoursome so she may not like the baby food I was giving her even tho I was making it myself). Breastmilk is kinda sweet too, so I changed from the baby rice, potatoe and things, and tried her on pureed apple/pear, which I did myself. Worked a treat and now she loves her food - although she can be a bit picky about potato (she's still not keen on that lol). So, try maybe introducing her to pureed fruit first and then once she's enjoying her meals introduce the vegies and other non-sweet things?
With some babies, it takes more than a few tries before they start liking solid food. I suggest putting away the baby food for now and try again in a few days.
Also, as long as the baby still has the tongue -thrust reflex (pushing the tongue to the roof of the mouth - making it seem that they are pushing the food out of their mouths), most of the food will end up in a big of everywhere else but the mouth. It doesn't necessarily mean that they don't like the food, it just means that they haven't outgrown the reflex yet. This reflex is what makes them good as sucking (the breast or a the bottle).
might be too early. Start with rice cereal though...not wheat yet, because baby's system may not be mature enough. If you breastfeed, baby is getting many of the nutrients needed. Type in La leche legue.com and it is possible they have a section on First baby foods (least likely to cause a food reaction). Linda
