Re: WATERS BROKEN AT 27 WEEKS PREG
It is common in pregnancy for your waters to leak a little through out the pregnancy. This is usually just a small leak and usually goes unnoticed. Most of the time, the break in the membranes repairs itself and the waters top themselves up again. This is something that they don't always tell you about, but I was lucky enough to have it explained to me after my 4th baby was born ( I leaked my waters over a few days but only when I went to the toilet so didn't notice).
The risk of infection is increased by a more dramatic rupturing of the membranes and waters, and it is important to get this checked out. Often, they will put you on bed rest and give you antibiotics to prevent infection. It is important that for the remainder of your pregnancy you avoid lifting any thing heavier than about 4 kgs, sex and exercise. It is also recommended to shower instead of soaking in a bath and to make sure the water temperature is quite cool.
In more extreme cases, they baby may need to be delivered, either by c-section or an induction, but that is where they can't prevent infection or labour actually begins.
Follow your medical teams advice, as well as the advice you find here, and you should be fine. I would say you will have an earlier than expected baby, but I'll make up for that and need an eviction order to be signed for mine.
Rest as much as you can. When you cough or sneeze, try to be sitting down and leaning backwards as this will help to prevent excess pressure on the uterus and more leaking.
