worried sick!

hi all

this isnt  a parenting question but I was wondering if anyone out there has had trouble with their periods. I have a very close friend of mine who has had her period 3 times since the 15th May. It is very heavy and hurts alot. I have finally talked her into going to doc's but i am scared she will chicken out. As i live 3hrs away from her I cant drag her there myself (which is what I want to do)

Has anyone had symptons  like this at all and if so what happened and what should she do apart fromthe obvious. She is s"&^%ing herself it is cancer.

Thank all

Kate

Re: worried sick!

It might be a lot of things. If it isn't how her period usually is I would say it could be cysts, fibroids maybe. My mum had fibroids and she got really painful periods and very heavy and irregular. best thing is not to stress so much until you have a diagnosis.

Re: worried sick!

Stress can cause the menstrual cycle to become erratic.  Stress can prevent the female hormones from working properly and this means that periods can change.

If I were her, I would be getting it checked out, because she could also have had a miscarriage and that could explain the excessive bleeding.

Re: worried sick!

Hi,

No it doesnt sound like something to do with cancer, your friend sounds very much like me and expects the worse.

Before i fell pregnant iw ent through the exact same thing!! I owuld get my period for a month straight and then it would go  for a week or two and it would be back again for a month, sometimes it would go for away fo 2months. I eperienced VERY bad cramps, i would even wake in the middle of the night crying.

I went and seen my doctor and ruled out that i wasnt pregnant, i was then booke din for an ultrasound. They found 3small cysts on my left ovary. I was told they are not dangerous unlless they get really big and burst, so if your frined has this she should get regular checks to see how they go, also some cycts completely disserpear on there own.

Just tell your friend to go docs and not to be scrared, its better to know somethings then not know.

Re: worried sick!

She may have ovarian cysts - they can affect periods & are nothing really to worry about, but if she has them & they are not going away on their own she may need to have them removed, which is simple procedure.

She could also have endometriosis. A friend of mine has it & her periods are not regular. It's nothing to worry about, either, but it can cause some problems such as difficulty getting pregnant.

Either case, she should get checked out. I understand your concern about cancer &, yes, that is something else that needs to be ruled out. It is most likely she just has cysts but you can never be too careful.
