lump in neck

i was washing cameron in the bath about 4 days ago and felt a nodule in his neck on the left hand side. you can't see it, but it does move around when you feel it. i've booked him in to see the doc on wednesday but has anyone else had something similar? i think it might be an enlarged gland since it's moveable

Re: lump in neck

My daughter Camryn has one too behind her ear and up a little ,i asked the nurse about it and she said it was nothing and it would probably go away in time. She said babies come out with all sorts of bumps and lumps and not to be too concerned.

Re: lump in neck

My 4 year old had a lump on both sides of his neck. I worried like mad at first until a friend reassured me it was fine and her child had them too.  I mentioned them to my health visitor who also assured me it was nothing to worry about. When my 2 year old was born he had exactly the same lumps on both sides so I didn't worry at all

Re: lump in neck

My son had a lump when he was little and it turned out to be an infection...(just like when we get a sore throat and our glands get swollen.)  Good thing you made an appointment because it's best to get antibiotics as soon as possible to stop the infection from getting worse...strep, pneumonia etc...

I hope your little guy gets better soon!

Re: lump in neck

This is actually a very common thing.  My son has a little lump on the back of his neck.  It's a fat ball, that in time normally goes away.  Or like you said could just be a gland.  If it feels rubbery hard and is easy to move, then more then likely it's a ball of fat.  I would not worry about it at this point, but good to have the doc check anyway.

Re: lump in neck

I have enlarged lymph nodes on both sides of my neck.  There is nothing wrong with me, they just blow up when I get sick or am overly stressed.

It is actually quite common, and the only time the doctors worry is if there is pain with it or it keeps growing.

It could also be fatty deposits growing just under the skin, which are also moveable.

Getting it checked out is always a good idea though.

Re: lump in neck

hey,

Yes it could be a swollen gland or it could be a cyst. I have a cyst behind my ear and i can move it around.

Everything will be fine, good luck at the docs on wednesday.
