Just A Few Questions

Hi guys My little girl is 6 1/2 mo now and there are a few things i'm forgetting lol. Firstly, what kind of food can she eat? I have given her baby food but wanna start giving her real food and don't know where to start. She has had apple, banana in her mesh feeder, I gave her some toast but she bit a big piece off and tried swallowing whole o.O. She has had roast potato and pumpkin fine... I'm trying to foll The BLS approach for her feeding.

Also, she is still feeding every 2hrs day and night (breastfed). Does she need this much milk or do u think it could be a habit thing? She only has 2 20min naps through the day and is up every 2 hrs at night. I would really like a full nights sleep lol.

Finally, lol, I wanna start going out for more than an hr without her but she will not drink from a bottle:/ I have tried different kinds of teats but no luck. I tried differents cups and she is interested in them but only to play with...she doesn't actually drink out of them. Everyone says if she is hungry enough she will drink but is this true? I have a feeling Ava would scream the whole time until she got her boobies lol.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Re: Just A Few Questions

Hi again ,some mothers will probably be mortified by what I am about to say but I am sure I was giving my babies  a milk arrowroot biscuit at 6 months to suck on as long as they are sitting and take broken pieces away and watching them constantly  the other thing is the old fashioned teething rusk.As i said has been a long time and i would think some banana would be ok.I am a step grand mother now but bub lives 4 hrs away so I not quite with it nowadays.

                                                      Good luck Cham

Re: Just A Few Questions

Lot's of vegies are good. I did broccholi that I made into mush with my food processor attachment and also zucchini. You can do zucchini just fork mashed if you peel it but if you don't peel it you'll have to make it mush with a machine. Carrot is good too. Plain yoghurt (full cream) is good for the dairy content.

In terms of the breast feeding, I didn't allow my boy to feed anymore than every 3 hours (it's a matter of each mothers choice really). It's up to you whether you want your baby to be a demand feeder or just as necessary. I think by about 7 or 8 months I followed some advice of our community midwives to cut feeds down to only 3 times a day so breakfast lunch & dinner so that they get used to regular feeding times. At first you'd probably need to do that before feed but eventually you would need to do it after their solids so that they learn that solids is their main source of nutrition and the milk is their drink.

Anyway, hope this helps!

Re: Just A Few Questions

hey,the raffertys is a great food...u could make some pumpkin soup with extra vegies in it,blend it all up and freeze portions of it in an ice cube tray, parsnip is a great vegie,is sweet and for some reason babies and young children love the taste of this vegie..i found soups to be great for Myah's first time foods and it also gave her the taste for her vegies..she didnt always enjoy her food as she was a boobie lover(still is) too but the soup is blended really well and fills their bellies up with nothing but goodness!!  Myah gets excited even now when she knows mummy is making soup...let me know how u go!!

Re: Just A Few Questions

I found a baby food company that makes real food mashed up it is call Rafferty's Garden it is a company designed by a mother because she was sick of the watered down food for her children so she got food and just mashed it down then mixed it together.... Maybe if you could find some of the brand in ure local supermarket. My little boy hated baby food in the tins and jars, so we went out looking for some that he would actually eat and we found this one and he absolutely loves it.
