Re: Diet advice

i have done the same "diet" everytime i've needed to lose weight, and i'm currently on it to lose my baby weight and i've lost 4.5 kg so far.

pretty much the amount of calories you eat needs to be less than the amount of calories you burn in a day. i eat whatever i want as long as it's without the amount of calories i'm allowed in the day. for you i'd make it around 1400-1500 calories, most people need about 2000 a day and you should NEVER go below 1200 as your metabolism will actually slow down and your body will go into starvation mode, trying to hold onto whatever you put into it.

so if you want a kfc meal then no worries, but you won't be able to eat anything else for the day, and might i say it's not that healthy. i prefer to eat healthier stuff, you get to eat more for the amount of calories so you don't go hungry. you also need to exercise. i walk 45-60 mins a day and that burns about 300 cals. exercise is very important to weight loss

Re: Diet advice

I wrote an article about losing weight & burning fat fast - I'm sorry but I don't know how to put in the link to it. If you look on my home page & look at advice I have written you will see it. I really think it will help you.

The basics are eat throughout the day, breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, snack. Keep all meals & snacks low fat. Exercising such as walking is great, just 20 - 30 min a day. Drink lots of water.

Do not get discouraged if you step on the scales after doing such things & the weight isn't much different. Remember that exercise builds muscle tone & that weighs more. Judge your weight loss more by measuring your waist.

If you want an actual diet to follow that is very good, try Betty Baxter (there is a website, just search the name). I've been on it for 2 weeks & have sort of followed it, but not exact & have had some things I shouldn't, but I have lost 1/2 kilo & 6 cm off my waist!

Good luck!

Re: Diet advice

I don't like the term 'dieting', because to me it means you can just change your eating habits and the weight just peels away.  I prefer the term weight management, as it seems to be a little more closer to the truth of what you need to do in order to lose weight.

When starting any weight management program, it is important to know what your Body Mass Index (BMI) is for you height, as well as the healthy weight range.

Losing weight can be a slow process, but rushing into crash and fad diets can be more harmful than beneficial to you.  Take it slow, eat a healthy diet, and incorporate a moderate exercise regime.

In the first few weeks, it is expected that you would actually find your results very confusing.  Your weight might stay the same, or even go up, but your clothes might already be starting to feel looser.  This is because the body will convert fat into muscle, and muscle is heavier than fat.  Having these conflicting results is actually good, it means your body is turning the fat to muscle and you should just keep pushing through.

It is also recommended that instead of 3 big meals a day, you break your meals down to about 5-7 smaller meals, at regular intervals during the day.  This helps to stimulate your metabolic rate so that your stomach isn't sitting idle with large amounts of food in it.  The more food you eat in one sitting, the harder your stomach has to work to digest it.

I would also speak with my gp about a suitable program, so that they can help you on your journey and have a record of your progress.

Re: Diet advice

30 mins of exercise a day. this includes housework and sex (yes sex burns Caleries really well)

diet wise. what is it you eat?

My SIL went ffrom a small size to huge after her daughter was born. she did research and found this deit that shed her 30 kg in 5 months. she walked alot with her daughter (they lived near a beach so she walked along there)

her food intake was fruit and loads of it. breakie was fruit and only fruit. 2L+ of water and she used a % of the food she uses a day into food types. carbs, protien ect. i dont remember the % but it is a natural balanced diet.

dont eat white bread as it is all carb and not good for you. no junk food and steer clear of preservitives.

if you were like me and eat large meals cut them down in half. i have lost 5 kg since doing that. and when you feel hungry drink water. have 6 meals a day, mainly fruit rather than snacks.

good luck (wish i could get the whole plan for oyu but family issues atm so i cant)

Re: Diet advice

Hi,

I lost 25kilos and really gave it a could start with the kick start diet, if you follow this to the letter you WILL loose a massive amount in the first week.  http://au.todaytonight.yahoo.com/kickstart

I lost 7 kilos in the first week (put 1 back on in the second) and then the rest fell off, a bit of exercise is important too.  I think motivation is the key and if you cant find it by yourself then join a group.  Also, the diet is only half the battle, its the mind you have to shap up, cliche I know but trust me, when you commit to it, its not that hard it should just become habit.  I havent kept all of the weight off and it was over 5 years ago that I lost it but im much happier and keen to give the next round a good go, if you want to do it together, just let me know and we can catch up each week to see how we are going.

Good luck!

Re: Diet advice

Hey thanks

I am sort of doing weight watchers, only cause I had the books and found I needed to follow some sort of program.  I think it kinda fits with some of the other advice too, less calories than I burn, but the calories are points so easier to calculate.  Tomorrow will be one week, so I will let you know.

I have switched a couple of days to having my main meal in the middle of the day, and have been doing extra incidental excercise (shoveling and racking gravel) I have also done an extra bit of bike riding, but I am limited by kids and the weather.  I am interested in the soup diet, I actually have been having soup on the nights when I have the main meal in the day, it's great, but I like my breakfast too much to eat soup I think.

I would love to catch up weekly via email and discuss how I am going, as I don't have weight watchers close by, so I am on my own.

One thing I am concerned about is that I am not burning as many calories as i used to.  I used to do lots of snacking, not necessarily bad food, now I find that I only have enough points to eat my meals.  I am concerned about my body holding on to the food I eat as I live quite an active lifestyle and I am concerned my metabolism may adjust to less food, rather than burn fat.  Does anyone know about this??

Thanks sincerely to everyone for your help. I will keep you posted, maybe in my blog, I have an exam on Friday, but after that I will have more  time for blogs.

Jodi
