Re: toilet training

You can get potty's that are little chairs.  They are still close to the ground, but save the back a little bit.

I would be training her the same as any child, regardless of her size.  Let her let you know when she is ready.  Signs to look out for include a regular poo routine, digging in her nappy and her telling you when her nappy is dirty.  Take it slow and expect that it can take quite a while for some children to pick up on it.

Re: toilet training

I think its great that you are considering toilet training at this age, its a similar age that my boys started. And apart from the normal boy's mess that i still get (all Mum's of boys know what i mean!) i've never had a problem and they are 7 and 8 now. Also they seemed to find night-times much easier to get a hold of when they were ready, and not as many wet sheets for me!!

My twins were very small and still are, and i know you have a girl but they still all start off the same way. And i understand you wanting to not use a potty too. There is a great toilet training seat that comes with ladder that connects to your toilet so its really sturdy. I can't remember the brand but i'm sure they have them at most major shops. Because you are starting with your 1st and are having another baby you'll more than get your $$ worth out of it. Also i think having them in cloth nappies or training pants at home helps as well, that way they can feel when they are wet and usually will get really uncomfortable.

Re: toilet training

My girls are also small for their ages. I didn't have any problems potty training them. They did it when they were ready. We had a potty beside the toilet, but after a few successes, they wanted to be big girls and use the "big potty". I kept a step in front of the toilet. They would step up, and hold on to the seat, to prevent from falling in. LOL

Good luck. In time it will happen.

Re: toilet training

Babies tend to potty t rain when they are ready. Best not to rush these things as it will cause problems later. We have our 39 month old granddaughter living with us and she's just decided that she wants potty training now.

You could sit her on the potty whenever you change her nappy just as a prompt but the main thing is not to make an issue.

I've often heard parents boast about how young their children were when they were potty trained but by and large, I take it with a pinch of salt. Too early can do more harm than too late!

sit her on the potty backwards! it helps her to SIT and not just hold her self up! it really seems to help!  Good luck

Re: toilet training

It doesn't matter about her size, give her a try. My brother has a great seat for toilet training but I don't know where you get it (maybe someone reading this will) - the seat sits over the toilet seat & it has steps attached so little ones can get onto the seat themselves.

Re: toilet training

I've never used the potty, I used the old fashioned child seat that sits underneath the toilet seat and I had a little step in front so they were able to get up themselves......  you can get all sorts of fabulous gadgets that are expensive but this cost me nothing and did the same job..... Good luck x
