Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do for a child who suffering with a virus.  Keeping her room warm (not hot) at about 24 degrees C and keeping the humidity up in the room will help with her breathing.

All four of my little ones are sick, as well as my partner, and sleep is something we are not getting either.

Re: 19 Week Old with Stuffy nose and Cough!! HELP!!!

Hi there, Im not sure where you are located (by the spelling of your name Im guessing you are based in the US somewhere?) Over here in Australia we have a product called 'Fess Little Noses' which you can buy from your pharmacy or drugstore, which is essentially a saline solution that you squeeze into your little one's nose, then you can suck out all the saline and mucous with the little blue thing that is pictured in that link. I used it with all of my children and I love it. It helps them breathe so much easier and gives them a much more peaceful sleep at night. I hope you can find it where you are and that it works!

In the US if  you go to the pharmacy you can get NON medicated vapor plug ins for the light sockets. Those will emmit a nice scent all night long to hlep allivatiate the issues as well.

You can also use saline dorps to dry up the nasal passages.

The other had great advice as well. I h oe you little one feels better fast. There's not much you cna do for a littel one that  young with a cold...HUGS!!!!

A humidifier worked for my little girl, especially if its a cold that does not want to go away... Also a vapour bath before bed... You may want to check and see if she getting a tooth..That usually will wake my daughter up every hour...

Re: 19 Week Old with Stuffy nose and Cough!! HELP!!!

Hi, There are several things that you can do:

1. elevate the mattress or bed at the head.  Just get a pillow or some thick books.

2. Put some baby vix on chest and back when going to bed

3 put a humidifier in the room.

In Australia you can get what is called fess little noses this is just a saline solution for babies.  It is squirted up the nose and will stop them from being so stuffy. It also comes with a nose sucker for when the nose is really runny after the solution.   Maybe there is something similar for you in the states.

A hot steamy bathroom does wonders to clear the chest and nose.

Hope she feels better soon.

Re: 19 Week Old with Stuffy nose and Cough!! HELP!!!

This is no fun, that's for sure.  But there are some things that you can try to help make her comfortable.  One is to put a vapoizer in her room.  Make sure that it is at least 4ft away, but pointing in her directions.  If you can get some vicks vapor liquid and put it in as well.  This will help to open her nose and quiet her cough.  It also will help her to sleep a little better.  Also, turn on the shower nice and hot and let it steam up the bathroom and then sit in there with her, but not in the tub.  The vapors will help to loosen the mucus in her nose and chest.  stay there for about 10-15mins and then useing a nose aspirator suction out all that you can.  If she seems to be hurting you can give her a dose of tylenol (acetaminephan), based on her weight.  But do not give aspirin.  This should all pass soon, if it's from a cold, symptoms can take up to 14-21 days to clear in infamts.  Hang in there!

Re: 19 Week Old with Stuffy nose and Cough!! HELP!!!

hi, she could be teething, you could give her calpol as we call it in England, or neuropen. this should help her with the pain which will then allow her to sleep. whenever my son starts teething the same thing happens to him, it shouldn't last to long, just make her as comfortable as possible, keep things calm, and she'll be ok. if you're not getting any sleep, just try take things a little slower and easier, even if you don't nap, try and chill right out, stay calm, you'll also be ok.
