Re: when to wean my baby

I was absolutely terrified that Kenny would have a reaction to cow milks...so what my doctor recommended was a gradual transition. IF she has a 8 oz bottle 7 ozs was formula and 1 oz was milk. I increased the dose every three days until she was half and half.  She continued to have regular stool so we made the complete switch...I started around 9-10 months

Just wean onto the cow's milk slowly. When you make her bottle, lessen the formula & add a bit of cow's milk. Gradually increase the cow's milk. Don't be scared about intolerances - if she does happen to be lactose intolerant, it will just make her a little sick but she'll be fine. I think if we worry too much about things like food allergies, our kids would never try a lot of foods, lol. She should be fine though.

Re: when to wean my baby

Hi there

My baby is about the same age as yours, and i have been having the same problems lately, so this is what i have done. I have cut his bottles back to 200 mls instead of 240 mls - he was only really leaving about 50 mls - I have also cut out 1 bottle a day. So now he is having 1 in the morning, 1 at lunch time and 1 before bed. My son still wakes up thru the night for a bottle, so he is having 4, sometimes 5 bottles a day still.

I have been offering him water and baby juice whien he has his meals and i have been using full cream milk when i cook his food up for him. I have added normal milk to mashed potato, muffins, porridge and cereal for him. So far i have had no drama.

As it has been said already, just introduce it slowly and cut back her bottles a little bit.

Hope this helps. Cass xx

Re: when to wean my baby

Hi there, When I was a baby there was no formula and I was feed on carnation milk!

Until recently the trend was to introduce cows milk, eggs and nut products later and later. It has been found that over the years there has been a huge increase in allergys.

The latest information to be realised is that because we do not introduce different foods early enough the chance of allergy increases.

With any new foods introduce gradually, however, unless there has been someone in the family with extreme allergys I would not worry.

As advised before try adding cows milk to foods first, mashed potato, porrige, mashed pumpkin etc so by the time your baby is 12 months all different foods are being eaten. Remember though just one new food at a time so you can monitor any changes.

Cheers, Miriam.

Cows milk shouldnt be given until the child is 1yrs old. Try making up smaller bottles so she doesnt waste them, if she wants more, then make a litttle more. Dont gie full bottles if she is just going to waste them.

The recommendation for milk is 12 months, but you could start to introduce it into her diet slowly now.

As for her wasting her current bottles, cut back on the amount in each bottle and offer water or baby juice in a sipper cup at meal times.

Re: when to wean my baby

hey, the best thing to do about the cows milk is to introduce slowly, in breakfast foods and in meals. My son was lactose intolerant and suffered quite badly when i placed him on cows milk and i didnt know what was wrong as i was advised to put him on cows milk when he was 9mths old by my mum. He was in a lot of pain and took him to the dr and had to change him to soy milk straight away .This is 15 yrs ago now and i didnt have minti to ask advice!! lol....never give straight milk in a bottle to who first off. When introducing the milk do half water and half milk then the next day if no signs of complications slowy add more milk than water and do this over a week...my cousin slowly introduced cows milk to her little man at 11 mths old and did it like i said and had no problems but all children are different. Her poo's will probably have a change but if she gets bad cramping go back to the formula. They do advise not to give cows milk till they are 12mths and there are reasons for it as their little bodies cant digest the milk as easy as formula....but see how u go!! let me know ....cheers naomi xx
