Abnormal Discharge From Breasts

Ok not really a parenting question but im kinda freaked out. Just examined by breasts and they excreted a milky white discharge from the nipple there is not a huge amount but enough to be seen clearly and its coming out of both nipples. This happened about a month ago and i ignored it. What is this? Should i be worried? I dont think im pregnant but is it worth doing a test? Have no other signs of pregnancy at all lols.

Re: Abnormal Discharge From Breasts

Well if you had ababy within the last few years this is as normal as anything. My daughter was two before that kind of thing stopped.I now have a ten month old which i breast fed for a month but ive still got discharge like a milky kinda thing.I did do a preg test myself worrying but it is normal. Are your breasts hot or are the veins bluer that normal if so maybe get tested at a gp.It could be pregnancy!

Re: Abnormal Discharge From Breasts

I had this about 3 months before I got pregnant with my first child.  I was getting a really thick white discharge, that sometimes looked like weak butter, and it also had the clearer fluid coming behind it.

I was referred to a gynecologist who ran some tests and did an ultrasound of my ovaries.  It came back that I had some small cysts on my ovaries, but that they were non active and weren't causing the problem.  The other tests were clear, so he asked me then if I wanted to have children, and I said yes.

It turned out that it was my sign that it was time for me to have a baby, and that my body was finally ready for it (after 4 miscarriages).  I was put on an ovulation chart to help with mapping my cycles, and within the very first month I was pregnant with my oldest daughter!!!!

I know with all my pregnancies, my boobs have leaked from an early stage (especially my first!!!!!) and it was one sign of being pregnant.

It can also be an indication of cysts that are active and causing issues or even a pituitary gland issue, which can be serious.

I think if you feel pregnant, then you should take a test.  Do it first thing in the morning as hormone levels are at their strongest and you get the most accurate reading.  It it is negative, then go and see your doctor, but keep calm and not worry about what it could be.  Might just be you wanting to be pregnant and fooling your body with your cluckiness.

Re: Abnormal Discharge From Breasts

A couple of things can be happening....From my experience, I had this from the first time I get preggy.  Have you had any children, or even become pregnant at all??  As the hormones can often cause you to have a little "milk" if you squeeze.  I would not worry about it unless is smells or your nipples are red.  But this is a very common thing to have after becoming pregnant, and it can stay or go afterwards.  Hope this makes sense.

Re: Abnormal Discharge From Breasts

I'm sorry for your loss, but it very much can.  Anytime you become pregnant your body starts preparing from the moment of conception.  Which means the breast start to grow and create the first food for the baby, the colostrum.  This can start to appear at anytime during the pregnancy, and often it lingers whether the pregnacy continues to full term or not.  All thanks to our hormones and it takes several weeks after the pregnancy ends for our body to return to normal, so you can very well have discharge from here on out.  Though you may notice it more during a certain part of your cycle then at other times.  But don't worry unless you are red and swollen or there is an ordor.
