Re: how can I get my child to let me brush her teeth?
Jedd has HUGE HUGE oral sensory issues, just check out my pasge if you want to know abouthtem...LOL
I face him away from me as I sit ont he toilet seat. I wrap my leags around the lower half of his body and hold his head in the crutch of my arm with my hand and palm on his forehead to hold him still.
I then sing to him as I brush his teeth. I only sing IF he is letting me brush them. As soon as he jerks out of my grip, I stop singing. He likes the wopng "the wheels on the bus" so...he lets me do it.
After a bout 2 months of doin git that way he rarely fights me know. I still ahve to use the "hold" on him but he tolerates it much better. Prior to just he act of putting th ebrush in his mouth would cause him to vomit...
BTW this is a gentle hold that has been suggested to us by his doctors, I don't want anyone to think I am strangling my kids....LOL.
If you ask any dr or nurse the "proper" way to restrain your child for shots or procedures, this is one of those hold routinly used. In our Children's ER they hav ethe "holds" listed on t he wall with picutres to help illustrate so that they are done properly...
