A full night of unbroken sleep, oh how i miss that

My advice is: be grateful that she sleeps through the night! If she sleeps more during the day she'll start keeping you up half the night, then you'll be posting again pleading for advice on how to reverse it.

Well I had the same problem with my new baby betwen 6 and 11 weeks of age.  I had a friend who came out and showed me what the tired signs which are yawning, rubbing eyes, red eyebrows, clenched fists and once you saw these you put your baby down awake then walk out the room and when she starts to cry wait a few seconds and go back in turn her on her side away from you and pat her on the bottom at the same speed (dont pat her to sleep)- when she stops crying go out of the room and if she starts again wait a minute then go back in and do the above - if she gets really worked up pick her up give her a cuddle and start again.  It will take a good week but it works and you will feel like you are spending hours beside her cot but beleive me it does pay off. I used this becuase my daughter would go down for 45 minutes and then wake - I used this technique and it did work. She now wakes after 45 minutes and puts hereself back to sleep.  I have the opposite to you my daughter sleeps well during the day but is hard to settle at the last night feed.  It can take me and hour or so. Hey wow! Sleeping thru the night is great. Some babies just don't need to spend most of the day sleeping. The more alert & active ones are often ahead of their contemporaries in learning to talk, walk, read etc. If she only needs half hour catnaps thru the day I suggest you don't make an issue of it; you wouldn't want to mess with her night time routine... Why not just get one of those nifty strap them in baby chairs (if she isn't sitting up well yet) & tote her around with you as you move from room to room thru the day so she can watch you & prattle to you as she feels like it? Thats what I did with my rarely-sleeping baby girl... She was greeting people with a "Hi" & an exhuberant grin at 3 months.. Walking up & down stairs at 10 months & swimming at 18 months. Full sentences (grammar & all) at 3yo... You get the picture... In a hurry to get out & interact with the world. Your's might be the same.

Well when my kids were small, I had them take naps at about noon everyday, I will put them in a quiet room and played some soft music and they sleeped for at least an hour or two at night I always put them to bed by 8:30pm every night and that just became a rutine until they started preschool and all the other grades my babies at home are now 18, 16 and 15 and they still come home from school and they take an hour nap!

You are lucky to have a such a young baby that sleeps through the night!  what is your trick?  I have a 1 year old you still kinda wakes up during the night.

Anyway as for the day naps I would probably try to keep her up a little longer, say about 10min) b4 putting her down for the nap.  Also what I used to do is time my babies nap and when I new he was going to be waking up I would go in very quitely then resettle for us this was dummy in and teddy.  No eye contact and no speaking.   Try and resettle your little girl she will soon get the hang of it.  

OMG!  You have a 12 week old who sleeps through the night!!  I checked your profile.  You are one lucky chook, you know that.  I really think that you should just go with it.  I know it makes day to day tasks harder, but you are getting sleep!!!!!!!!!

There are many parents, myself included, who's eyes are turning bright green with envy right now.  I want to know how you managed to get 12 hours of peace and quiet over night with such a young baby.
