I was wondering if anyone who had pre-eclampsia the first pregnancy had it the second pregnancy? Looking for advice on getting pregnant the second time.
I had a bad case in my first pregnancy, but I was told its rare to get it in a 2nd, just try to put your feet up as much as possible! easer said than done I know!
i had pre-eclampsia with my first, was told i was at risk with my second as i had high blood pressure but it didn't progress and now 30+ weeks into my thrid pregnancy and nothing not even high blood pressure and as far as i know i haven't changed the way i do anything it just happened the first time but then not in my others. so i would chat with your gp about the likelyhood of it happening again with you or just try and see what happens as thats what i did.
Hi! I have written some advice here, so you can see what measures I took with no2. I had it severely with my first child, but aside from some rising blood pressure giving birth I did not have it with number 2. I hope that helps!
I was the same, had it with the first, not with the second except that my blood pressure was high in labour (more than is normal) but all was fine.
I took no extra precausions and was just not as worried in my second pregnancy as it is not as new. I have a friend who is yet to have her second, her first stopped growing and was born around 33 weeks all because of pre-eclampsia. In her second pregnancy she had to take 1/3 asprin each day, and have more regular checks, she was hospitalised a week ago, as she is currently pregnant with her second, but this time she is 37 weeks already and baby is growing fine. They are monitoring her, and will induce her if they think it is necessary, but all appears like she will go to term.
Yeah, I think I forgot to say that I had more ultrasounds than normal and more doctor's visits for number 2 than would be normal, but still less than my first one. The ultrasounds were largely to check for growth as the ultrasounds with my first indicated normal growth, but he was quite small - 2.4kg for a 37week baby. Anyway, all was well - Bella was big (for our family) and healthy and has thrived ever since. I do think a more relaxed frame of mind does make a big difference! (and I think it makes a big difference to the baby after birth too)
This is different with every pregnancy. Just because your first came with this lovely complication, doesn't mean you will have it with future pregnancies.
When you do get pregnant again, you will be considered a high risk from the start, because of your previous history. This will mean more check ups more often. Your blood pressure and urine protein levels will be monitored for signs of change. You will be encouraged to have the majority of your care down by an obstetrician and will also be encouraged to elect for a c-section, just in case.
Funnily enough, 4 pregnancies of mine my blood pressure stayed normal, my 5th, well, let's just say I wish my blood pressure was a little higher! I don't like feeling as though I'm going to meet the floor every second! lol. While I've not had personal experience with pre-eclampsia, it is still something that I have learned a bit about so that I can be more informed about what it is if I ever needed it.
