Which Baby Cup?

I will be introducing bub to a cup in about a months time when he starts solids and i have been looking around at the ones in the shops but can't really find one i like and the ones in the supermarket although are quite expensive, look cheap... he is breastfed so i would like to find one with a soft teat perhaps one that has different teats/spouts as he progresses.  Which ones do Minti mums recommend and where can i get them?  Thanks in advance!

Re: Which Baby Cup?

We did the whole buy the expensive cups and see how they go trick.  yeah, after about 20 different cups, and 20 different rejections, we bought some from Coles that were about $3 each, have a hard spout and look cheap and nasty.  They have been the best for our girls!  From the start of using them, they loved them!  OMG!  They still love them, even the older 2 who are 4 and 5.

The soft teat ones are good, but they don't feel like the breast, no matter how much they say they do.  I found the hard teat ones actually helped with teething too.

The ones we get are called Dinky and can be found in the lunch box section of Coles supermarkets.

Re: Which Baby Cup?

I have been really lucky with my son. The first one i bought him, he loved straight away. It was a tommee tippee one too, but it has a hard spout. The inside has a little clip in bit so that you can change the flow of the drink from slow to fast. It was $12 or something, but well worth it.

I dont really know much about the ones that have progression teats. But i think Avent make something like that.

Good luck, hope you find something he likes!

Re: Which Baby Cup?

hi there,

i agree with whats wriiten here so far. when it comes to sippy cups it's trial and error.

with my step daughter when she was about 11/2 she was still very much hooked on her bottle and would only have sippy cups with similar properties ie soft spout and long in shape, but with my first son he perfered the hard tippee cups that looked very much like a cup with handles and a lid althought not spill proof sadly and my youngest liked anything with handles and a soft spout.

i found that the chemist as a large selection and prices vary depending on brand and style but thats where i got mine.

Re: Which Baby Cup?

I wrote an article about sippy cups here http://www.minti.com/parenting-advice/627/Sippy-Cups-When-Which-ones/ before I had my twins. I started my son on sippy cupts pretty late at about 11 months.

With my twins, I started them on sippy cups when I introduced solids at 7 months. They wouldn't take the cups I use for my son at first, so I ended up just spooning water into their mouths. That became tideous so I tried just regular cup and it worked. Of course that wasn't practiful for outings, so I kept on buying cheap cups to find one that they'll like. But as they got older (they are now 12 months), they accepted any cups with a pretty soft spout.

If you find cheap ones, just buy a couple of different kinds and see what your baby likes.

Re: Which Baby Cup?

I think it is trial and error with buying a cup.  I know people in my mothers group who bought 3-4 cups b4 their baby would even go near it.  A lady in my mother group bought seveal expensive cups b4 buying a cheep one at the $2 shop.  Her son loves the cheeper one.

I bought one I thought was really good it had a hard spout though and by baby hated it.  I then bought a Tommee Tippee Nuby cup wich has a spongy soft teat like spout and handles.  He loves it.  He now also loves the first one I bought him.

As I said trial and error.

Re: Which Baby Cup?

I would look at mag mag, take and toss, or at an avent one, which you can remove the leak proof part to make it easier to suck.

Hope this helps.
