Re: 37 weeks and painful!!

What you are experiencing is normal, and it is an indication that your baby is getting ready to be born.  I'm 33 weeks (though still being told 37 weeks!!!) and I've had the same for a few weeks myself now, and it is getting worse.

The period like pain is probably braxton hicks contractions.  These will start to form a regular pattern and become stronger until labour comes on.  The back ache is because the ligaments and muscles in your back are getting ready for pushing, as well as the fact your baby will be dropping and moving into position by now.

Braxton Hicks contractions help to move our babies into position, and while they can be painful, are nowhere near as painful as the real thing.  They may catch you by surprise, make you double over or take your breath away, but labour is still worse.  You may find when you stand up, it starts.  The sudden change in gravity helps to drop the baby further.

Another thing I'm currently experiencing is pelvic pain and nerve pinching which is caused by the pressure of bubs moving down.  Again, it is normal for that to happen too.

To me, it sounds like you are on track.  You could be like this for  few weeks yet, so try and breath through the pains now to be better prepared for labour.

Re: 37 weeks and painful!!

As are bodies get ready to go into labor we can get all sorts of aches and pains especially as our body  prepares to deliver the baby/babies unless your back pain has other symptoms for example you don't feel the baby move for several hours in the pattern your accustomed to or start having amniotic fluid loss(wetting yourself) then there is nothing to be concerned... but its always better to be safe then sorry if the pain continues I would go see your GP or Emerge just be make sure its nothing else.

Best wishes
