Re: reflux?

s26 was far too rich a formula for our kids. we used heins formula from the second day after rhiannons birth and it has never given us probs. my son also had it when he was about 7 months. it is cheaper and is gentler on bubs belly. switching the formula might help. ::)'s from becca!

Re: reflux?

skye had projectile vomiting after every feed on sma gold and we found it was far too rich for her and decided to move to a milk that was not so heavy or thick and changed to cow and gate and this worked a treat,,, now she has a reaction to full fat milk and cant tollerate the thick creamy stuff so it can run on when bubba is older.

have a word with your healthvisitor if you have one as the thickness or strength may be the problem and when skye used to vomit it used t go about 6 metres across the room!!!!

Re: reflux?

You have to be careflu when switchiing to formula from M. BM has the tendancy to pass throgh the system MUCH faster than formul does. So it could be she is getting too much.

If it's reflux she will be acting like she is in pain. ALOT of Dr. will NOT RX meds for  ababy who will vomit and then continue to gain and eat like a normal child. they are claled "happy spitters" Yes, I understand that it is MUCH more than spitting...LOL i'ts just what they hav ebeen dubbed.

Sometimes putting a "happy sppitter" on Zantac will hlep. It pretty harmless and a side affect of Antac is the fact hat it will help to make the LES(lower esophageal spnicter) to become stronger. IN some children the LES muscle is weak hence the spewing everywhere.

It is reflux however if you see a diminish in eaint habits  I would keep a log and see how much she is taking and how often she is taking it. As well as a guess as to how much you think is coming out. that way you can add it up for a 24hour period and see hwo much she is eating.

Taht is the first line of defense when it come to reflux babies.

It is also reflux if you start to see signs and symptoms of pain during or after a feed. That woudl be arching of the back and screaming for HOURS!!!!!!! after being fed. As well as painful hiccups and painful burping.

Let me know if you ahve any other ???? Jedd  had VERY severe relfux and I have learned a TON form our experience.

Re: reflux?

it could be a few things. she could be drinking too much and the amount won't fit in her belly, hence the throwing up. some babies prefer some formulas over others, so it's good to try a few and sometimes it takes breatsfed babies a little while to get used to the formula, it's a bit harder to digest so it can take a little while for their tummies to get used to it. it could be reflux, but i thought babies would cry with feeds it they had reflux cos it hurt. i coudl be wrong though.

Re: reflux?

How about try about half as much for a feed say 90mls instead of 180. Babies stomachs are tiny (approx the size of their fists) so smaller amounts more often just like with BF might help. Also keep bub upright when feeding and try to tilt the bottle so bub has to work to get the milk then keep bub upright after feeding.

It's not advisable to alter the number of scoops required to make up formula as this alters the amount of nutrients bub gets and can lead to health problems. i'm pretty sure this warning is on tins of formula.

Re: reflux?

One thing that they don't seem to tell parents about formula is that it sits heavier in the stomach than breastmilk does.  This means, that a smaller amount of formula is required to fill bubs up compared to the breastmilk.

I would say you should put 1 scoop less in for now, until bubs tummy has adjusted to the increased volume.

I noticed when ours went to formula, they were wasting about 1/3 of their bottles, but had super full tummies, even after burping (accompanied by that cute look they get! lol) and were happy and going the distance between feeds.  We soon worked out what was happening, backed off the amount we were giving and cut down on the washing too! lol.
