reverse stutter?

rhiannon has a reverse stutter (no that is not a technical term... LOL) she repeats the end of words at the end of the sentence eg:

where's my hat t t t

twinkle stars s s s

it's so weird.... we cant work out why she does it, thought it might be that she just likes the sound of her own voice with certain letters but she does it all the time with every letter! just wondering whats up with that??? have any of you ever heard of anything like it?? or is she just odd! GIVE IT TO ME STRAIGHT T T T!!! LOL! - cheers from becca! ::)'s

Re: reverse stutter?

My opinion is not clinical.... My daughter had a thing for repeating consonant sounds when she was 7-12 months tho. It developed into a private language/code & she definitely was very fond of the sound of her own voice. Then the untranslatable babble began. Recognisable words & sentences followed. An extremely vocal young person!

My suggestion would be that you prepare yourself for incessant chatter, invisible freinds etc... I hope you like to have continuous conversation in your life...

hugs

Rosalinda

Re: reverse stutter?

I wonder if anyone else went to your page to remind themselves how old  your little girl is?  I know I just did.  Hey, my memory can't store everything!!!! lol.

I would say your daughter is playing with the sounds.  At her age (not even 2 yet), kids do.  Ours did and do and none of them have a speech problem, other than not being able to get them to zip it much of the time!!!!

Ignore it and if she is still doing it in a years time, then get it checked out.  Until then, let her explore the sounds she is making as it will be helping her to develop her own speech further.

Re: reverse stutter?

Hi Rebecca. I'm new to the sight, but saw your question and thought I could help a little. I'm a Speech & Language Therapist.

It is still a stutter, just a little unique. I suggest ignoring it unless she is aware of it. I also recommend contacting your local NHS Speech & Language Therapy service and referring your little girl for specific advice and support. Quik help is best.

Hope this helps

Katie

Re: reverse stutter?

Babe I think it might just be a charater trait of her. Charlie and Alex have a few odd things they do to. (hey next time u see Charlie ask her to say sausages, its so funny and cute) If ya is worried see a doc about it.

I am from a thinking, unless it affects their life dont do anything about it. she many need speech therpy (you can get tapes i think if you cant afford it, chris hated it when he was a kid)

it could be that she just likes some sounds.

good luck chicki

Re: reverse stutter?

she may have a lisp and its her way of maing sure shes saying the words correctly. as a tot i had a server lisp, it was that bad i would refuse to talk at all. then when i did talk i would do it slowly and repeat the words over and over that was my way of dealing with it so just maybe thats it.

im not sure how old she is but if shes a tot and has a dummy this could also be affecting her speach.

Re: reverse stutter?

that is interesting, sorry should have given more info, she is 21 months old (talked clearly and in sentences since she was 12 months) and had a dummy for about a month when she was really little. she does have a tongue tie but it has never affected her speech before. and she talks a million miles an hour. it is just this one odd thing that she does, and only with the end of the last word in a sentence. thanks for your info, much appreciated ::)'s
