I am just wondering if this will work?

My 14 month old refuses to eat solids. At the moment he is taking 3 bottles before going to bed after we try to feed him dinner. but he refuses to eat and just wants his bottle of milk. He also refuses Lunch and breakfast, and he does not get any snacks at all.

Now I am just wondering if giving him just one bottle at night then let him cry the rest of the night then try to give him breakfast will help? Will breakfast be enough solids for him as i slowly try to increase the amount of meals he has?

Re: I am just wondering if this will work?

Anthony just went through a stage where he refused to eat anything we offered him. If it's not a chewing thing, don't offer anything else until he eats. If he goes to bed hungry so be it. In the morning he will be ready for breakfast and if he is still refusing offer a small amount of something you know he will definetly have. And just keep that up. He will pretty soon learn to eat what you offer or he goes hungry. It sounds horrible but this is what a doctor told me to do. Children this age will not voulentarily starve themselves. First just him checked to make sure its not a chewing thing or a gagging reflex. Does he eat pureed food? He may just not like the texture of real food yet! And at this age thats ok.

Ok firstly I know it isnt a chewing thing because he loves his teething rusks, and secondly he wont even eat pureed food that is all we offer him. Going to try and see if he will eat some real food tomorrow morning.

maybe he is not able to eat the solids, of course depending on what they are.  try just making him some carrots, potatoes and the like.  they are very soft and you can mash them up.  if that is what you are already doing and he is still refusing to eat it, i would go to the doctor.  having three bottles before bed sounds like he is holding out for bottle time.

try making meal time fun.  if your in a rush for dinner he could be turned off by that and view meal time as a stress and maybe just boycott it all together.  he will associate the nice warm bottle with peacefulness and cling to that.  either way, i would get him checked out to be sure of no underlying problem like illness etc.

i hope you figure it out soon so you can rest with ease.  :o)

I would call the doc..Not eating at all could indicate something else..I know some children at this age may not eat alot, my little one doesn't eat like she used to, but this is of great concern if he's not eating any meals

I suppose anything is worth a try when you are desperate.  Normally, I would say a child will never starve themselves, but his lack of eating is a concern.  Hhhhmmm, maybe a trip to the doctor to rule out any health issues would be a good idea.

It must be so frustrating for you making all that yummy food only to have him reject it.  If only we could make our kids pay the food bills! lol.
