Re: my toddler wont chew and chockes on her food. help?

she hasnt got her 2yr old molars yet and she doesnt speak so asing her if shes hurting wont do any good, she will bite her food and chew on some things like dry wheatbix but she is stubborn and wont chew on her more stickier food.......

and she chewed a lego block fine too. i will try to make her food smaller and sit with her and make her chew everything, so than you all who gave there opinion.

Re: my toddler wont chew and chockes on her food. help?

I have had the same problem with my son, he is 22 months now and starting to get better. I always chopped up all his food into tiny pieces so I didnt have to worry about him choking. It is a very scary problem having them choke on their food. I think it is something they eventually outgrow, and for some reason just seem to take longer to learn to chew than most. If you are really concerned take her along to the doctor for their advice. Good Luck.

maybe she has something wrong in her mouth?  maybe teething or something else.  to be safe, until you either solve the problem or she starts chewing, cut it up much much smaller.  i would even go so far as to mash it up very finely.

ask her if her mouth is hurting her.  if so, that could be why she isn't chewing.  if that doesn't work out then take her to the doctor to check out her mouth to see if there is any kind of infection going on.

(if you can not go right away, take a flash light have a look for yourself to see if there is something happening in there.)  hope that helps a bit.

Tricky one.  I'm not sure what you can do other than cut her food super small or puree it!  Has she started getting her 2 year old molars yet, because they can be rather painful and could cause her to act like a baby bird and choke her food down.  Just a thought.
