Thyroid meds while pregnant

Has anyone been on thyroid tablets while pregnant and every thing was ok with your baby?

I'm about to start a low dose of PTU (propylthiouracil) as I am thinking of having another baby.

Just wont to know if anyone else has been through this.  Thanks

Re: Thyroid meds while pregnant

I would really love to know aswell as I have just been told I have an over active thyroid. I start on neo-mecasole tomorrow but like you said what if I decided to have another baby. I had to wean my 12 month old so I could start these drugs and she wasn't very co-operative. Wish I knew that I could have had PTU while b/feeding.

Re: Thyroid meds while pregnant

i was on thyroxine for my underactive thyroid for the whole of my pregnancy, in fact they actually had to increase it partway through as pregnancy can slow your thyroid. once i gave birth they checked it again and reduced my thyroxine as i didn't need the bigger amount. my baby was born totally healthy, c-section and apgars of 9 and 9 and no oxygen needed. thyroxine is something naturally found in your body, so it doesn't hurt your baby. the best person to ask is your doctor or obstetrician
