Re: Low-Carb HighProtein Diet Confusion
Hey there,
If your child is on lowcarb diet, then they should not be having the cereals you mentioned for breakfast...try weetbix or porridge. They should not have juice or sprite. As a treat once a week, they could have watered down juice...ie: apple juice 50: 50 with water. You should make sure theat they are having multigrain bread when eating toast or sandwiches. Try making a casserole for dinner using heart smart veal ( no or little fat) with lots of veggies and basmati rice to thicken ( rule of thumb - 4 cups raw veggies to 1 cup raw meat) ...low carb ..good protein. Spag bol using heart smart mince and lots of grated veggies. Again, use at LEAST double the veggies to meat ratio plus a tin of diced tomatoes!!( Grate carrots, zucchini and dice broccoli into the mix!) Use low fatt cheese and reduced fat yoghurt. THe more natural your childs diet is , the better off they are! My daughters snacks include ..rice crackers, rice cakes spread with avocado, cashew nuts, diced fruit - apples, bananas and oranges. She loves dip with rice crackers...hommous , basil and cashew nut dip ( high protein, low GI) She also loves olives, loe fat feta and other nibbles as a treat. As a special treat, you can give them a low carb / low fat ice cream in a cone. My cherub loves this!!!!!
