potty training

So my 2 1/2 year old boy has started requesting wearing undies not diapers.  BUT he won't go on the  potty.  I have started giving his sister who is almost 4 suckers every time she goes to encourage him but he still won't go.  When he gets up from a nap I make him sit there and then after a few minutes he'll get up and usually pee on the floor.  Is there anything I can do or do I have to force him to wear diapers still?I am so sick of diapers it's been almost 4 years HELP!

Re: potty training

I suggest getting a soft toilet seat as both my boys refuse to use the potty but love the big toilet! Also let him stand up to wee if he wants to - even on the grass for a start, that's how our oldest started. A lot of encouragement and praise is the way to go - and try your hardest not to get angry when he has an accident. Good luck!

Re: potty training

Hi. My son simply refused to sit on the potty, but would stand like his dad (with his hands on his hips!!!) on a step to have a wee in the toilet. I bought a soft toilet seat to fit over out toilet and after a few weeks where he wee'd in the toilet and pooed in pull ups or undies he eventually sat on the toilet with a magazine (about cars his absolute favourite thing in the whole world) or book or songs. One day  - success - a poo in the toilet with lots of sticker charts he carried on. We had a little blip of regression a month later, but sticker charts worked well. To his day he has never sat on his potty!!!

Good Luck

Re: potty training

you could use undies at home and just b persistant with putting him on the potty after he has a meal or drink and try the pull up pants for when your out or at bed time, he will get it in time.

Re: potty training

You say he is weeing on the floor when he does sit on the potty anyway, so why not get him the undies and see how he goes?  Sure, still might be a mess to clean up, but he might just decide that having wet undies is too uncomfortable and really make an effort to start using the potty.

Re: potty training

have you tried pull-ups?  That is what I put on my grand daughers that I've raised.  I know it sounds silly but when my 2 grown sons were 2 my mother-in-law would give them a empty coffee can to pee pee in and it worked.  I didn't have any trouble with either one.  good luck!!
