Worried about miscarriage

Hi all,

I am 6 weeks pregnant with my second child and am very worried because I've been having very light brownish p/pinkish vaginal discharge off and on for the past week. I've also had some mild cramping my lower back mostly. I had non of this with my first pregnancy is this a sign of impending miscarriage?

Re: Worried about miscarriage

Hi, I am hoping you have sought professional medical advice by now, and that everything is ok.  I have added links to a couple of advice articles on the site about early bleeding in pregnancy.  Also, if you look through recent Q&A and blogs, you will find that a couple of other Minti members had similar experiences recently; their stories may help you.

If indeed you do suffer a miscarriage, please accept my condolences, and when you feel up to it, have a look through some of the great advice on the topic written by other mothers who have experienced the same tragedy.

Hi, I would imagine it's probably nothing to worry about as they say the a 'little' bit of spotting can be normal and the cramps could be your muscles just begining to stretch but I also think that rather err on the side of caution hon, and get it checked out. If anything it'll give you piece of mind. Otherwise you'll just drive yourself nuts with worrying. Best of luck.

Kind Regards

Re: Worried about miscarriage

Hi there,

While any bleeding in pregnancy should be investigated, what you are describing sounds like implant bleeding, which is very common around this stage of pregnancy.  Some women experience it, and others don't (I'm on my 5th pregnancy) like me.

I would say the cramping in your back you are getting is due to the hormones loosening your muscles ready for your baby to start doing some serious growing and stretching.  This I have had with all mine.

Any time you are concerned about how your pregnancy is going, then please, go and see your doctor or midwife.  It is better to be cautious and go home feeling silly than it is to miss a serious problem.  Medical staff are paid to look after you.

Most important though, is that you try and keep calm and not stress too much.  Stress can be harmful to the baby as it reduces the bodies production and efficiency of use of hormones required to keep the pregnancy going.
