Seafood while pregnant

Hello,

I am 13 weeks pregnant and a little confused about the types of seafood I can eat.

I have just eaten half a tin of smoked mussels without even thinking.  So I thought I'd reasearch it and there are so many varying opinions.  Most say to avoid smoked seafood, but I read somewhere else that tinned seafood i.e. tinned mussels, sardines etc. are fine.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.  I'm a little nervous about what I'e just eaten!

Smoked muscles in a tin are a big no no. For all the million people who tell you "it never effected me or my children" go and talk to the one who's baby got listeria from it and it will change the way you think.

There are too many people who think "it wont happen to me"...

I have to say, i've been naught in this department.  I felt that there was no increased risk of getting food poisoning, so stuck to eating what I would if I wasn't pregnant.  None of my little monkeys have any problems and I got to satisfy my cravings while pregnant, so all good.

Re: Seafood while pregnant

i am a huge sea food fan!!! and while pregnant i craved it the most.... more then anything. i spoke to my gp about it and he told me no raw and be careful not to eat to much. i limited myself to a small meal (one fish or serve of mussels) once a fortnight because of the high murcury levels in the water. have a chat to your doctor or child heath nurse to see what will be best for you. ie: if you are high risk etc. but thats what i went by.... it seems every new study they do changes there mind on everything.
