Same as you did when you were pregnant.  After having bubs, your body has to adjust to not having that little bundle pulling on your every muscle.  It can last for a few weeks, but if you sit properly when breastfeeding and use the pain relief techniques you had in pregnancy, then things will settle down pretty quickly.

Re: ease the pain.

Pop a pillow under your arm and baby. It will help take the strain off your back and shoulders. There are special breast feeding pillows you can buy that go around your back. If you are planning on BF for a while I would reccomend them as they are great.

You have to remember too that your back has to get used to being in the correct position. For the best part of 9 months there has been constant weight dragging it forward. I remember when I gave birth, walking around the hospital hunched over because it was too painful to stand straight. It should ease over the next couple of weeks.

Hi, Congratulations on your new bub!

I had the same problem when I first started breastfeeding.  I found that I was leaning forward towards bub instead of bringing bubs to the breast.  Once I started bringing bubs to the breast it made all the difference.  Also found using a tri pillow helpful as bubs was higher and it took away the weight of bubs.

Good luck!

Hi, and Congratulations on your new baby girl and congrats on breastfeeding her!.  I had the same problem with my back as i wasn't used to the sitting in the b/feeding position but after a short while i got used to it, i also suffered from a very stiff neck from always looking down at bub.  Hot showers are good for the pain as well as painkillers - check that the ones you buy wont effect the breastmilk.  You could also try changing the feeding position now and then or laying down to feed which is great for a snuggle at the same time.  Best of luck.

Re: ease the pain.

you need a good comfy chair to sit in and use a pillow to prop baby up so ur not leaning forward to feed her. or you could try laying in bed on your side to breastfeed.

hope this helps

xoxo
