Mesh feeders

I have seen in the supermarket, mesh feeders for babies.  You supposedly put pieces of fruit/veg in and bub can suck it out without the risk of choking on large pieces.  Has anyone else used this and what did they think.  Is it useful or just another product to waste our money on?

Re: Mesh feeders

My daughter loves these things.  But I don't put fruit in them.  I put ice in them or flavored ice pops.  She absolutely loves it, and it keeps her occupied in the car.

Re: Mesh feeders

I had a lot of success with them with my little girl.  I think it totally depends on the baby though...  She didn't get her first tooth til 9 months so she wasn't able to eat much solid food, and she didn't like baby food, or anything pureed.  She wanted to eat what we were eating.  The mesh feeder was a great compromise for her.  She watched me slice the fruit  or veggie and out it in there and she sucked and gummed away!  Her favorites were banana (very hard to clean out), blueberries, cucumber (seeds removed) and avocado.

Now that she is almost two, we use it for homemade popcicles or just ice cubes - I make juice poscicles in an ice cube tray.  It helps with the mess and keeps her hands from getting so cold!

Re: Mesh feeders

I didn't get one with my first, about I finally did ended up buying two for my twins. Waste of money!! My twins sucked the fruit out and made quite a mess. Plus, they weren't interested.  I think if they are not old enough to chew with their gums, then babies shouldn't be given things that may be too hard to eat. And if they are old enough to do a chewing action, then just be sensible and only give things that are not too tough and cut them into tiny pieces.. no mesh needed.

Re: Mesh feeders

hey , i had one of these for my daughter from the age of 8mths and i found it to be excellent. I guess its up to the individual. I put all sorts of things in this, i had banana ,pear ,apple which was great at teething times and a lot of other things. She never choked on the bag at all. It wasnt expensive,i got it for 5 bucks on special at Big W. I think it depends on what age you use it from as well......

cheers naomi

Re: Mesh feeders

They got the better of me and i ended up buying one, bub isn't ready to use it yet and i'm pretty sure i wasted my money on it.  I also noticed the mesh bag is quite long, couldn't they choke on it if they sucked it down too far?
