Re: Water for Rishan

At 6mths I would be offering a small amount of cool boiled water after each meal.   I got a sippy cup that had a soft teat like spout and 2 handles.    He should be getting enough water from breast feed/ formula.  Slowly increase the amount of water as you increase his food intake.

It is reccommend that you give cool boiled water up until 12mths but I started giveing normal tap water at about 8-9mths.  My reasoning for this was that he was crawling around at this age and putting every unsterile thing imagineable in his mouth.

my boy usually gets a bit of water at meal times and if we are out as it is hard to mix formula on the go. I usually take a pop top full of water with me and wen i drink i usually offer him some when he has had enough he just wont open his mouth.

We have been giving our daughter cooled boiled water in a sippy cup since she was about 6 months old. Just find a sippy cup with handles on both sides that your baby can hold.

Re: Water for Rishan

Generally, you want to provide more fluids when eating solids. But this doesn't have to be water, it could be the milk (breast or formula - whatever your baby is on).

What I did with my children when I started them on solids is to offer a few sips of water after they ate. I had a very simple sippy cup and I placed it in their mouths. A few drips and that was it. As they get older and learn to sip and hold the sippy cup, then they drink however much they want (though I don't put that much in the sippy cup).

I gave Francis a bottle of water every now and then, he was breast fed until 8  months.. But my mother kept insisting I gave water...

Don't know if it was wrong or right, but there was no harm in it...
