giving up bottle

I have just come back from my visit with the health nurse and she suggested that i start giving Charlotte milk in a cup... Im not 100% sure on whether to make the switch just yet.. is it ok if i keep her on the bottle a bit longer??

When did you all make the switch?

Re: giving up bottle

Hi there.

Your girl will give up the bottle when she is really ready.

Don't make a huge deal out of it, and just keep offering her a "big girl cup" or perhaps a drink bottle that has a straw in stead of a pop top lid!

My girl was 2 and a little bit before she gave up the bottle.

Re: giving up bottle

My 16 month old still has 2 bottles a day..

I am planning on working on giving it up entirely around age 2 or before that if she is ready!

Good luck!

Re: giving up bottle

my daughter was 1 and a half when she gave up the bottle. she would ask for a big girl cup so thats what we gave her. no one can tell you when its right for your child to give up their bottle you will know when the time is right.

Re: giving up bottle

I had a little trouble getting my son off the bottle in the beginning. He could get liquid out of a sippy cup but didn't want to..he wanted his bottle. So we ended up just taking the bottle away and it didn't take long til he figured out if he was going to have milk he was going to drink it out of his "big boy cup" lol :) Good luck!

Re: giving up bottle

i think it would be ok to introduce her to a cup now buti would be taking it slowly i put my daughter on a cup at 10 months she now uses a cup without a lid and she has just turned 2 . But she does use her bottle still alot morethan her cup . But i wouldent take the bottle away just yet ecspecially at bedtime . They tend to advise you to take them off a bottle rather early as it can affect their teth but my daughter s teeth are perfect.

You could start introducing a cup now, but take it slowly.  let her get used to the cup before taking the bottle away, or it might end up taking longer in the end.

Re: giving up bottle

Hey my little one is 13mth and we are still on the bottle.  See my recent Q on trying to switch.  I think you can give it a go but if she is happy with the bottle then why ruin a good thing? she may grow out of it soon.

I am trying to switch but having no luck so I am thinking of just waiting untill my boy tells me he dosen't want it any more.
