I believe at this age, a baby is still to young not to sleep when they need to..as he/she gets older, you can change this routine..

Re: How to stop a routine?

Not sure if I can help but I would make sure your newborn knows the difference between day and night.  During the day have some light in the room when sleeping.  Have the usual day to day noises happening.  Don't have the curtins or blinds fully closed.

At night make sure that the room is dark and there is no noise.  Although some like to have some soothing music, this never worked for my son.   Start having a night routine.  Ours was always and still is bath, bottle, bed.  Make sure you do this at the same time each night.

Also at night no mucking around no eye contact when feeding and have limited light on.  Make every thing quick and simple.   From the moment our son was born we did this and we put him down and walked out of the room no rocking, patting or anything.  He new pretty quickly how to self settle.    He now has a dummy and a teddy that we give him and then we just walk out of the room.  (After everything has been checked)

Hope this helps and your little one is soon sleeping at night.
