Hi there, My son is nearly 9 months old and to me he looks a little yellow in the face. I was just wondering if jaundice only affects little babies or any ages? I havent been to the doctor about it just thought i would get some advice on here first. Thanks and hope someone knows the answer.
you can get jaundiced at any age, it's caused by an increase of bilirubin which is found in the liver, so it's best to send bub to the doc to get checked to make sure his liver is functioning properly.
thanks guys for all your thoughts. I did end up getting him a blood test (geez that is the hardest thing) just to be on the safe side. Hoping to get results back today doctor doesnt' seemed too concerned so at the moment I am at ease a little she thinks its the food as well. He doesnt' eat a lot of carrots but lately a fair bit of pumpkin. Thanks again everyone take care
could it be too much carrots? too much carrots would turn a baby yellowish - this in fact happened to my son. But like everyone else said, if it's jaundice, you want to see your doctor immediately.
Here's a picture of my son being a bit yellow after having too much carrots over several weeks.
My babies all had jaundice but i disappeared in the first month of life, so i would get it checked just to be sure. Jaundice is the liver not flushing out the biliruben properly, better to be on the safe side and get it checked.
I once thought my baby of around the same age looked yellow (now 3) and was told by a friend of mine who was a nurse that perhaps the baby, or I (still breastfed) was eating too many carrots that contain a lot of keratein and can turn the skin yellowy.. I think she was correct....
As Arna wisely advised, you ought to get it checked out by a Doctor, as if it is jaundice, that means that his liver isn't functioning properly... This can self correct, or may need special treatment.

Jaundice can appear at any age, but I thought with a baby, it usually occurred in the first few months.
I would definitely be taking him to the doctor to rule out any health issues. One way of helping it to go is to have him in the sun for about 15 mins every day during summer and 15 mins twice a day during the winter months. Vitamin D comes from the sun, and sunlight has the exact properties and doses our bodies require. The lamp beds they use on babies to help with jaundice have vitamin D in them too, but the sun is much nicer any ways.
