Hello fellow minti members. Just a quick question today. We recently bought a heater and electric blanket for my 5 year olds bed and bedroom and has the heater on an hour before she goes to bed and an hour or half an hour after she's fallen asleep and same with the electric blanket, but the blanket gets turned down to number 1 or 2 once asleep. She's toasty toasty warm when asleep, and i check on her before i go to bed and still warm as, but about 1am every morning, she comes into our bed to sleep. Is this just a phase, or what should i do? Thanks in advance.
We got some really good oil column heaters from Big W for $75 each. They are the Mistral brand, and are really good in our girls bedrooms. The are pretty safe too, and have a safety cut off if anything happens.
I don't like electric blankets. A friend of mine when I was like 7 got electrocuted when she wet the bed, so ever since then, I've refused to use one.
Could be that she is getting cold during the night and this is what is waking her, and she then seeks comfort which can be found in the warmth of your bed. Amy wakes if she loses her duvet so I put on a top sheet which I tuck in tightly under her duvet, most of the time she will sleep through the night. You can also get special clips that hold the duvet in place, I'll try and add the link.
It probably is just a phase Kerri, though I wouldn't have the electric blanket on at all while she is in bed. Unplug it from the wall before she goes to bed, it is a fire hazard, and some people also believe that the electromagnetic waves can be dangerous too.
Hi Lui. Good to see you again. Wow, thanks heaps for the info and advice. Will definately turn the blanket of at the wall and pull the plug out. Didnt realise it was that dangerous. Thanks Lui. You're a life saver.
The body does not rest properly when overheated, that is why it is never a good idea for anybody to sleep with an electric blanket. It can also be a huge fire risk, and when sleeping, our senses have a really hard time detecting smoke, that is why smoke detectors are life savers. I would suggest that before your daughter hopes into bed, turn the electric blanket off at the wall. I think she will end up sleeping better. I don't think that you need the heater on, but see how you go. Hope this helps
